NBHA of KY - Amateur Shooting Dog Stake

Post by Ridgeland » Tue Jul 31, 2012 3:35 pm

Attention Bird Hunters and Pointing Dog Enthusiasts

The NBHA of KY will be hosting bird hunters stakes for your best bird hunting dogs at most of our National Bird Hunters Association trials this fall and spring. These stakes will be recognized and your resistered dog's name will appear in the American Field as well an Amateur Field Trial Clubs of America win certificate for his or her placement in member clubs trials. We know you have good dogs and that you might enjoy coming out to compete with them so we are offering a stake we think you could prepare your dog for and win.

The stake is the Amateur Shooting Dog- Judgement Ceases at Flush and will consist of a 30 min. bird hunting course with planted bobwhite quail that you will run with your dog and another competitor and his dog. Dogs will be judged on how well they hunt and point birds and how they accomplish their 30 min of hunting. Prizes/trophies will be awarded to three places also and fees generally range in the $35 area to cover the costs of planted birds, judges, etc. For your dog to get credit for his bird work, you the handler rmust be able to get in front of your dog to flush the bird. This is very similar to how we would all bird hunt-we would flush the birds and shoot. After the bird is flushed, judgement ceases as you fire a blank over your dog, your dog can move or chase the bird or you may whoa him to stop, etc.

If you are interested in spending some extra time in the field with your dog and having some fun pointing birds in a fairly natural field situation ,come join us and enter our Amateur Shooting Dog Stakes. You will have a good time and meet other people interested in a good bird dogs. There are also classes (Steady to Wing and Shot) broke dogs, Derbys (around two years old) and puppies. We welcome you to come and join us.

Do you have a schedule of your fall events. I have a derby that I want to bring down and run.

Nope, there is no such thing as an NBHA "Member". We (the NBHA) would love to have you and your peers come run in any NBHA sanctioned trial. Now you may have to be a "Member" of the KY club - for their points - that is up to them. But from a National Association perspective, no membership needed...just support our sponsors... http://www.nbhadog.org/

Also pay CLOSE attention to the ads when they come out so you enter the CORRECT stake. There are TWO that sound extremely the same but have different judging parameters...

1. Amateur Shooting Dog: This is an amateur ONLY stake for any aged, BROKE dogs.
2. Amateur Shooting Dog (Judgement Ceases at Flush): This is an amateur ONLY stake for any aged, dogs that only need to be steady to flush

As stated, both receive an AFTCA placement certificate that qualifies your dog for AFTCA CHs (must be broke for the CH though ;) ).

The purpose of the Amateur Shooting Dog (JC@F) stakes are to get new people involved and encourage them to continue training and gravitate to the broke dog stakes. Either way, this is a great opportunity for the KY region and the rest of the country. Nice Job Kentucky!

Hope to see some of you in KC next weekend!

Thanks for the more clear explanation. It is somewhat confusing.

All NBHA trials are walking. You may use horseback scouts. Dont let the HB scouting stop anyone from coming. I would wager a bet there will be people more than willing to.step in and scout for you. Just put out the word to the chairperson and they will help you find one.

Bigdaddy...we will have a handful of NBHA trials here in WI this coming spring.

Is there anywhere to get rules for this unbroke Shooting Dog stake in writing?
Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig.
