Re: Woodcock
With better than 8 inches of snow here in North MO - I haven't seen one!
Re: Woodcock
We've still got a foot plus in the wood in mid an northern WI so I doubt I'll see one for a couple weeks. That said it's forecasted to be up to 40 degrees and chance of rain this weekend so the snow depths could take a hit. Either way I hope to get out and look for some grouse.

Re: Woodcock
Flushed my first wc of thr year on March 7th or 8th last year. Still a couple feet of snow on the ground this year. Getting pretty antsy.
Re: Woodcock
At least I'm hearing song birds in the morning. They're not woodcock, but it's a good reminder of what's to come.
Re: Woodcock
Well, The ole timber doodles have shown up in the Nc Appalachian mtns. I ran my pup on em for a couple hours with two finds, one of which was in our own front yard. Seems its jut the start... I'm guiding a fly-fishing float trip tomorrow on a river with great woodcock habitat. Hopefully Ill scout some out for my pup during the float.

Re: Woodcock
I had one lone male Friday evening. -5 F with the wind tonight and a bunch of snow on the way this week. Poor bugger.
Re: Woodcock
I stopped by my cottage this weekend and there is at least a foot of snow in the woods. By my house there was close to a foot in the woods before the 3 inches Friday night and now we're supposed to get another 2-4 inches tomorrow with below avg. temps for the next week. Last year at this time I was working woodcock and grouse for over a week and now I can barely walk without snowshoes.

Re: Woodcock
does anyone know if any part of Illinois gets woodcock this time of year? I live in Chicago and would love to let my dog loose on some wild birds.

Dogs found their first woodie of the season this evening. We're in Geauga Co. in the NE corner of Ohio. Now that we know they're here we'll try to get some pics soon.
