I vote for a new forum section under the general tab dedicated to pigeons. Here Here?

To many subforums just chops things up and generally cuts down on traffic.
Re: New Forum section... PIGEONS
I agree texan. We are split up enough as it is. Where do you draw the line? Heck I have been lobbying for a doggie pedicure subforum for YEARS! Nobody listens to me.

Told you if you would include piercings we would do it.

Sorry, I thought this section was titled General Chat.
Maybe we need a new section titled New Section Ideas. Way too many posts on here about them.

What e collar would you experienced guys recommend in order to recall pigeons?
So far the only thing that consistently works is an ounce of lead.

I like the idea of a Bird Care and Management section. Q's get asked alot that are the same.
But I also understand too many subsections and the troubles.

With a little experience you will find an ounce of corn works about as well.Tooling wrote:What e collar would you experienced guys recommend in order to recall pigeons?

I'd suggest an ounce and an eighth. Just a little insurance.Tooling wrote:What e collar would you experienced guys recommend in order to recall pigeons?

I think we need a Pictures of Ugliest, Cheapest, made of Scrap Material, pigeon coup/cage thread

Re: New Forum section... PIGEONS
I think a pigeon section would be well founded as the same questions consistently take up space in this forum... Or maybe people should join an actual pigeon fancier or racing pigeon forum if they want to know more about training of the actual birds and health care / general husbandry of them... Not saying people who use pigeons for dog training don't know anything about them but people that focus on the birds themselves for what they are... those are the experts. I wouldn't join a "bleep" zhu forum to find out about gun dog training. A lot of the time this looks more like a pigeon forum than a gun dog forum lol.
Re: New Forum section... PIGEONS
Depends on the time of the year. This time of the year you can find lots of "what do with my new puppy", "Which puppy should I choose", etc. I don't see where this is a problem other that for the folks that get tired of the question. How many of the same folks that are complaining are the same people that have ask the same questions? If you don't want to see the questions then don't read the threads!
Re: New Forum section... PIGEONS
Have never understood the mentality of restricting post or topic to only what I am interested in. I always thought a person would read what he was interested in and skip the ones he isn't. Maybe that is just too simple. If we have beginning trainers wanting to know about pigeons and what they have to do to keep some I can't think of a more appropriate place than right here on the Gun Dog Forum. Strange as it must seem to some is we have posts about snakes, coyotes, cats, poisonous plants, and occasionally we touch a little about nutrition. And then there might be a few about trials, trailers, boxes, 4 wheelers, and horses.
Great place for the average dog owners to come and see what is going on in the dog world, a whole lot more than just dogs for sure.

I'm almost done with mine, with no money invested. All I'm going to buy is bobs, wire, and maybe the roof.GSP7 wrote:I think we need a Pictures of Ugliest, Cheapest, made of Scrap Material, pigeon coup/cage thread
Also, it will be in the front yard. Somehow I'm married.

Re: New Forum section... PIGEONS
No birds no bird dog. Pigeons are arguably the best training birds and owning them are probably the very best investment a bird dog trainer (or an aspiring one) can make. I personally don't see the problem with pigeon talk. Besides there are plenty other repetitive questions and answers on this forum that don't involve pigeons. If people would just do a search before asking a question, I think they would find their answer 9 times out of 10. Pigeon talk is probably among the least of Gun Dog Forums problems.

Only thing I bought for mine is the role of 1"x2" wire. Then I made some bird carriers out of some of the left over wire
