My birthday present from my dad is a grouse trip to Maine next year! We will be going with his friend and his friends. There will be a few other dogs there. We have a few questions that if anyone could help us out we would greatly appreciate it.
What do you guys do with your dogs on the road? Is a kennel in the backseat a good idea? That is what we do now.
Any tips on what to take/do?
Thanks for the help!

Where you going?
One thing to remember: We have some pretty wild swings in temperature. Does not bother dog so much but you.
I use a kennel box even though it is here at home. Dogs get dirty and muddy.
Make sure if you are hunting Paper company land that you choose spur roads and not the travel roads for the trucks to hunt. Do not want a squished dog.
Don't just hunt the spur edges, go deeper there are other twitch trails etc.
Bring some cooking supplies for a nice grouse and woodcock field lunch.
Bring orange as part of the Moose hunts, are during the grouse season.
There are a lot of road hunters so go deeper. Moose hunters take grouse to as they mostly ride around.
Not sure what else, but there is a start.

Great advice Rick!
When I go hunting with my father-in-law, his dogs just ride in the back of the truck. I would also stress the wearing of orange since it is moose season as well.
Good luck with your hunt.

Don't forget your camera and buy the Maine gazeteer. If you are out and about in the Katahdin area the scenery is wonderful.

It only is the law when hunting during fire arm season for moose and deer. Not sure about off season bear hunting, dog and baiting.moxiebob wrote:if you hunt in maine blaze orange is the law , and dont forget to hunt the edges of the swamps there cant be some great woodcock shooting also
