I cannot find anything on its approval for field trials? Do you have the info on the approval?

Re: Garmin Astro 320 T5
I can't find anything that "approves" it for field trials either. It would have to be able to be activated after the dog was already picked up....(pointing breeds)

Can't find specs. on collar. Weight and etc.
Will Garmin exchange the DC50 for one of these to be able to use in Field Trials if they actually are approved.

Re: Garmin Astro 320 T5
I have now come up with reasons why the T5 won't be legal for AKC (even though listed it)
1. Garmin isn't even selling them yet.
2.The T5 and TT 15 looks identical other then the prongs so judges literally have to feel for the prongs which most won' want to do.
3. The AKC doesn't allow lighted collars.
I personally will wait to hear the outcome but since they haven't even seen one, I doubt they have thought it through.

AKC has them on Their site as APPROVED.Brazosvalleyvizslas wrote:I have now come up with reasons why the T5 won't be legal for AKC (even though listed it)

1. There have been a couple on the forums that have got theirs.
2.The T5 has a ORANGE CAP on the GPS on top of collar. All others, (TT15, DC50) are BLACK. Very easy to tell apart.
3. AKC has Already APPROVED the T5 collar.
There is a very large picture of one at the top of this page.

Re: Garmin Astro 320 T5
Mute point since the FCC hasn't approved them for sale yet and they are a lighted collar. Its also easy to rectify the color. Just got off the phone with the Performance and they are taking another look at it.

Re: Garmin Astro 320 T5
FCC approval is a formality. AKC has already and the AFTCA will approve shortly, depending on what rep you talk to it may already be approved.
I'm always curious why someone would not want new technology approved.

You can't put the bullet back in the gun after you have shot it.
Bonnie H. one of the AKC reps got hers last week and is telling other trainers they were APPROVED!!!!!
Apparently you got your wired crossed.
It IS a DONE DEAL.
Performance is not going to change their minds.

I called Performance today and they didn't know it was lighted. They will have to drop that rule. I will be the first to order one once I hear from Performance directly. And yes they said they would drop it if they decided it wouldn't work.

Re: Garmin Astro 320 T5
"Performance" didn't know or the person you spoke to didn't know? I have a hard time believing that it went through the approval process and no one at AKC knew it has an option to light up. This is another non-issue turn the lights off, if you turn them on during a trial you get picked up. Same thing as using your handled under judgement.Brazosvalleyvizslas wrote:I called Performance today and they didn't know it was lighted. They will have to drop that rule. Re: Garmin Astro 320 T5
From the time of introduction the anti-Garmin rules from the governing bodies have been issued in technical ignorance, and they seem determined to not learn.
Weight is a non-issue, and there is no logical reason to turn the handheld off.
Everyone that has had a hand in making these decisions should be embarrassed. It is difficult to take them seriously in other areas.

Re: Garmin Astro 320 T5
Having to turn it on is most likely why they allowed it, I agree. But the girl told me she would as the guy that makes those decisions so I hope that it came from the Horses mouth. The whole thing really had me confused because you can go on Garmins site and it still says "not shipping".ACooper wrote:"Performance" didn't know or the person you spoke to didn't know? Re: Garmin Astro 320 T5
Anyone on this forum have their new T5 yet and could tell what they like it or don't like about it.
I hear some have theirs, but are just now have time to try it out.
Any comments good or not much better would be appreciated.

I received mine last week.
It's my first tracking collar but I really like it. Easy to use, well built, and does a good job at accurately tracking and relaying the information to me where my dogs are.
So far I don't have any complaints with it but then again I'm not hunting in canyons or areas like you might find in western states.

Re: Garmin Astro 320 T5
Any more reviews on the new T5 collars from the early buyers?
Worth it or go back to the D30?

Re: Garmin Astro 320 T5
Lost my dog in some heavy brush this week. He was 500 yards away in very dense brush. I don't think he could hear me or the whistle with the wind. Had about 15 minutes until darkness and had to rely on the T5 and 320. It made an easy chore of tracking him down.
Without the unit I would had either of lost him over night or had to hoped that I would had found him in the area the next morning.
