Kennel Material
Kennel Material
Time to reconstruct the kennels, I have a kennels that are made up of individual chain link panels. The fabric on the panels is pretty thin gauged wire and my shorthair has worked his way through it. We live not too far from Camp Pendleton Marine Base and when they shoot the big stuff off every year or so he freaks out a little and tears through the chain link fabric and I have to chain him up. Planning on re-stretching the fabric with some better material, was thinking heavier gauge or possibly something with smaller holes. Any recommendations?

9 gauge galvanized chain link fencing is about as rugged as it gets. It would take a monster to work through that.
From what I understand, you really cannot stretch 9 gauge all that much. Might be too much for your tube frame if the tubes are not heavyweight, so be aware.
My kennel panels were made with 9 ga. They range in age from 10 to 25 years old and the chain link is still pretty nearly perfect, even where one of the dogs tried to chew their way out. Aside form silver coated back teeth he did not make any headway.

Where do you buy it at? Because everything I see online is 16 or so feet long, or do you have it delivered to your house?

Yes they are long but you can lay them flat in the back of a pickup. Then just take the end sticking out of the bed and fold it under with the middle bowed up and shutting the tailgate holds it in place. It is a good idea to have somebody help when you open the tailgate to unload because of the spring action. Although, I have done it many times by myself [just have to be careful]. They are relatively inexpensive and work great.

Sorry, I forgot to answer the other question. I have bought them at Tractor Supply and Rural King.

Re: Kennel Material
But the hog panels I've bought are only about 4' high ... guess you can double up for a taller pen. Good luck.
Re: Kennel Material
They make a panel that has 2x4 holes that is as heavy as the cattle panels and as tall, can get them at MFA farm store.

Yeah, you can make them as tall as you want. Tractor supply also has them.Scott Linden wrote:But the hog panels I've bought are only about 4' high ... guess you can double up for a taller pen. Good luck.
