My old pointer was Elhew/guard rail (she passed away last year @10 1/2)!!! She was very adaptable in her range! As a young dog she could move out to 500 yards however if she pointed a bird she would hold it! At about age 2-3 she could range in open country if I allowed her too!! However she usually stayed at about 100yds and in heavy cover remained very close 50 yds! She was also an excellent natural retriever!!! In my opinion guard rail dogs are very intelligent and Elhew are very eager to please! She was a great companion in the field and in the home! I currently have a puppy that I’m picking up end of June! If you are interested the breeder has 3 female left! 2 of them I really like however we have a year old male vizsla so I picked a male! PM me if you want the breeders contact information!
There are many different English Pointer line out there but I simply prefer the guard rail/ Elhew stuff it fills my needs!!!

You sound as though you're looking for a puppy. There is no reason for that. The truth is there are always more good dogs are good homes, and if you are willing to travel to see a dog and can persuade a good owner that you can provide a good home, you can certainly find an adult who will hunt exactly the way you want.
