Vizsla Puppy pics!!!

Post by phermes1 » Mon Jul 09, 2007 2:37 pm

Our girl Buffy had her litter last monday - 11 puppies, 8 boys and 3 girls. Very healthy and a fairly drama-free whelping - which, as first time breeders, we were VERY happy about!!

Check out the pics!

Thanks. Right now, things aren't so bad. Once these guys get mobile, we'll be going crazy.
They're wearing their mom out feeding-wise. I have a puppy cam running and I swear they were attached to her and nursing ALL day yesterday. We're having to weigh them daily just to make sure that everyone's getting enough food and continuing to gain weight. We have a couple of stragglers who have been getting some dedicated one on one time with their mom. It's all relative, though, as the smallest one in this litter is still very strong and bigger than the biggest pup out of a few litters that I've heard about.

More pics posted last night! Eyes are opening and nearly all of them can walk to some extent.
The puppy cam has been a big hit. I've gotten more than one email basically stating, "Great. Thanks. With that thing running, I'll never get any work done!!" :)

These little suckers are moving, raising heck, and having a good ol' time.

And, of course, eating a TON!!!

They are now 100% weaned from their mom, but not without a few bumps in the road. Buffy came down with a raging case of mastitis on Monday and had to spend 2 nights at the vet's. She's getting better, but WOW - it's nothing to take lightly! It hit her in the space of a few hours and took her down like a grand jury on Michael Vick. :)

OMG!!!

This is pure, pure torture to view these pics!

CongRATS on some purty pups!
Sometimes she wished she were sleeping with the right man instead of with her dog, but she never felt she was sleeping with the wrong dog.

I never wean the pups when the mom is still milking heavy just because of the problems you experienced. Caked udders are no fun for the mom and can lead to mastitis problems now and in the in the future. Then when I do wean they are always let back in to nurse at least once a day and usually twice. I have always figured mom know when to wean without much help from me.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

Well - first litter, we figured we were due for a mistake. She was still nursing them for a few minutes each day, and we had planned on letting that continue for another week or so. It wasn't the plan to wean them so quickly.
When she first got sick, the vet tried to keep her on antibiotics that would allow her to continue nursing. When she kept going south and they couldn't get the infection under control, they had to pull out the big guns to put a stop to it. She's now on 2 different antibiotics and we've been told in no uncertain terms that she is done nursing.
Either way, I'm glad that they're taking to solid food so well. One less thing to worry about.

And y'all need to check out the puppy cam during working hours. I'm doing my best to decrease productivity around the globe, and the puppy cam has been a formidable tool to that end. :D

More updated pics on the website! They're spending more and more time outside - the more they crap, the more motivated we are to avoid having to clean it up, so we've been opening the back door and herding them outside right after they eat. And oh BOY can they eat!!

Buffy is doing much better. Her mastitis got pretty bad. She now has 2 abscesses, both of which are quite disgusting and will keep her on antibiotics for another 2 weeks. But she's OK and the infection appears to be under control. Thank God. Last week was not fun.

Had the temperament testing done yesterday and are very pleased with the results. Nearly everybody came out really, REALLY good. We definitely need to get more of these pups into homes that will compete or hunt them. So heyyyyy Justin - want one? :)
