I am on a waiting list for a puppy. I told myself no bird dog until I could run 3 miles every other day. Well, I'm there My question is, when will this little 8 week old pup be ready to join me. Does he need to just grow, or work his way up to it with shorter runs. Or does he come right out of the box ready to run 3 miles? (or trot given my pace)

Thetre is no way a 8 week old puppy can trot or walk 3 miles! It will be 4 or 5 months untill he will be able to even try it! And that depends on the breed.
There again, a three mile trot or jog will no way tire out a pup at 5 months! IT takes me 4 to 6 miles on a roading bar attached to a ATV to get my pups of 15 months breathing hard!
Let the pup grow up and mature before you think about his excercise. As for when he comes home at first he will play for 15 minutes, relieve himself and nap for an hour!
