I just wanted to let everyone know what a great weekend I had and what a great person I met. For some background, I own an 11 month old GSP. I have never owned a bird dog before so I don't really know much about training one.
I have become frustrated lately because I didn't really know what to do with him. I had read many articles and forums and thought I knew how to get him started. While working with quail that I had bought he ended up catching 1 or 2. So I quit working with him. I knew that I probably wasn't doing anything but hurting him.
I lucked out and ran across this forum on Friday where I happened to look and see where everyone was from and realized that one of you may be close to me. So I PM'd this person and he sent me one back and said that he only lived a few miles down the road. What luck!!!
He told me to bring my dog down to meet him and then we could work with my dog on Sunday. How many people would be willing to make room in their training schedule for a total stranger within a couple days of receiving an email from him. Those people are hard to find anymore.
Yesterday went great. My dog progressed more in those couple hours than the whole time I've had him. I was frustrated going into yesterday and elated at the end of training. This person is the exact person I'd been looking for all along to help me and to find out he only lives a few miles down the road is amazing. And guess what -- he doesn't even use shock collars !!! His dog in great and I just hope my dog can end up like his.
Okay, I'll finally tell you who it was. It was Gregory. I just want to say thanks one more time to Greg and look forward to training with him as often as possible. I feel confident that if I do as he says and have his help my dog can progress into a good hunting and obedient dog.
Thanks again Greg.
