roading harness?

Post by bruin » Sun Mar 02, 2008 7:38 am

Why do people use roading harnesses? My question is I just had something built for my ATV, and I am wondering why I need a roading harness? Why not just the collar? Will this cause an injury?
Thanks.

The harness allows the pressure point for pulling to be lowered to their chest, where they can get more lower body muscles involved.

It also keeps them from learning to pull on a neck collar, which is where a majority of pointing dog training takes place.

Rick Smith did an excellent article in an issue of Pointing Dog Journal, in 2007. (I'm not sure what issue) You should check it out. It gives a lot of good pointers for what supplies you will need, and what to do as far as a schedule, etc.

Two different ways of attaching, one behind the dog for a lower and further back rope line and also a attach point over the back used more for pulling off skis ect.

i use a body harness when i hook them to the 4 wheeler and run them....they actually are pulling and i didn't want the collar pushing against their throat.
