It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

Last time I posted I didn't have my english setter.

I knew she had style from an early age.

Around 4 months. She was sight pointing a robin.
Image
Image

This continued when I saw her scent point two separate pheasants the first day after I picked her up from Berg Bros puppy program.
Image
Image

As her training progressed she still had it.
Image
Notice the quail.
Image

As ruffed grouse hunting opened she still was maintaining her style.
Image
Image
Image

By the end of the hunting season she was tired, thin and plain 'ol beat up and her style wasn't as polished it was.
Image

Not long after that last photgraph she was diagnosed with Lymes Disease. Now that her treatment is finished she seems to be carrying her tail straigher again. I am looking forward to working her on birds this spring. I'm hoping her style tightens up again after a this LONG break.

Grand Daughter of HTA and Great Grand of Rail Dancer (I know kinda far back, but could not help myself) This was 10 minutes out of the box, after a 2+ hour drive the day she was delivered! It looks colder than it was...a balmy 35 degrees :D

Style is when a dog sets up on point and the point itself is the highlight, more than the flush, shot, or retrieve.

All on wild chukar, forest grouse, and sage grouse.

Larry,
Of all the pictures in your initial post, imho- I feel your Buck dog showed the most "style".

Point of order to all- if you're going to post a picture of a dog on point and:

a) want to know from others if your dog has style

or

b) simply are trying to show what you think style is

....... don't post a picture of a dog with an e-collar on. A dog with "style" can/will display it without
an e-collar on.

That's my .02 cents,

Rob

I would have to disagree to some extent to that. I went through and counted the pics that I could see there are 95 pics. with dog with e-collars on them and 89 without. I would say that 70% of the ones without either have a checkcord, is a puppy or laying on the couch. A lot of people take pictures while hunting. And when I hunt I run e-collars. That doesn't make a dog not as stylish. JMO

What does an ecollar got to do with style and why are you telling people what pictures are exceptable to post. I know that you said that it was your .02 cents but was'nt you taught that if you don't have anything nice to say then say nothing. That's why I don't post very often  .

My .02 cents

And they dont show it with the collar on????

Even Ferrel Miller puts a collar on his dogs everytime they are out, beside in a trial.

We could photoshop the collars off the dogs with them & photoshop them on the dogs without them, would that change the style of the dogs??? :?

Really don't understand what you are implying other then maybe you just DON'T like e-collars.

Wow! My dogs wear three collars (regular collar, e-collar, and tracking collar) when hunting.

For you, Graydawg, here is a pic minus the e-collar. Setup pictures like this do nothing for me, lol. Plus, my dog does not have as much STYLE on pen birds as the real thing. Personally, I'd much rather see a pic of a dog wearing an e-collar on wild birds. But I like everyone's dog pictures nonetheless!

Does this one have an E collar on, from a style standpoint? PS ....one is a wild bird and one is a lib

Question- Does a Garmin rob them of style too?

Guys............ sorry if I offended anyone with my earlier post- not my intention.

For the record, I do use a Dogtra 2500 T&B collar.

My point was this, most dogs know the difference between when they're wearing a collar (and can get burned)
and when they're not wearing a collar (and and can get away with "less" than better manners around birds).

If you think you're dog has style, take the collar off, put them down on the ground and see what they look like
when they point a bird.

I'm not saying that dogs who wear collars while hunting don't have style. What I am saying, is if you really want to
know if your dog has style, take the collar off and see what they do.

Again, sorry if I offended anyone- not my intention. If you want to see a picture of a 5 month old pup pointing a bird wearing nothing
but a belled collar, click the link in my signature. You "high head" folks won't think too much of it- I'm sure.......

I haven't noticed any difference, and I have run them without as well. My dogs wear them just about all the time hunting and training.
They rarely get stimulated....and when they do they know why. I really havent seen a difference.

Guess I could understand if dogs owner has got a heavy thumb.

If your use of an e-collar effects the style of the dog, then you are not using the e-collar correctly. If someone is "burning" a dog that hot with an e-collar they have no idea how to train a dog. IMO

Shadow,

I do not know you and have not seen your dogs. Not trying to judge, but you can't be serious. A WILD quail is holding 3 feet in front of a dog with no cover right by your shed? And held for you to get a picture?

As far as this talk about e-collars and checkcords preventing a dog from being stylish on point?

persoanlly- I don't think a whole lot of a dog that has to run hunting all the time with a shock collar on
So what if you have a collar on your dogs? A collar does not effect the tail set, body position, high head, etc. I would rather see a stylish dog with a collar v.s. a dog pointing a wing with a poor tailset without one! :? A collar is used ( or atleast I use a collar for this reason ) to give immediate correction.... now tell me what that has to do with style on point?

yep- if it doesn't have a tail pointing at high noon it has no style- that's why pointers, setters, and others have been bread for the last 30 years just for the tail- it's no good without a tail sticking straight up

I simply say- since I don't have and don't use shocker collars on mine hunting- you who who have to have them on all the time- take it off and go hunting- we'll see who's dog has run, stlye, and handles
