Very Cool. I can't even get my shorthair to go in water over his back.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the comments. It took me a very long time to put the video and music together.

To get started in dock jumping play a lot in the water and then off docks etc. There are a few organizations that put on events as well.

Very fun! Also feel free to PM me if you want more specific info on dock jumping!

That dawgs a jumping fool!
How high is the dock above the water?
How long is the runway?
And finally, how long are his jumps?

The normal dock length is 36' with the Pool length 40' The dock is 2 foot above the water. Moose started out the summer with jumping 7' and ended the season with a personal best of 19'2". His average is right around 15' mark or so. This season should be a lot better as his confidence was so much more by the end of last season. We kick off jumping March 1st with an indoor jump. Indoor jumps tend to be much more difficult to get a dog to jump as they feel enclosed from the ceiling and such along with the extra noise from walls in a building and such and then the water is sooooo much colder too. So this will be Moose's first indoor jump. I will just be happy if he jumps! Thanks again for all the nice comments!

There are not different classes for dog size but for the distance jumped. Short jumpers win the same prizes as large jumpers.

Get that dog a cape! Sweet video and great pics.

What a coincidence. I was watching the dock dog competition on the Outdoor Network last week and a GSP by the name of Tanner was leading the field until he got bumped by a lab and pushed to 2nd place. It was pretty fun to watch.

A vast majority of the dogs in the competition were labs so I was pleasantly surprised to see a GSP in the mix.

I noticed Moose wore a vest in some pics and not in others. Does the vest help protect his underside as he hits the water and keep him warm or is it supposed to help him become more bouyant? Perhaps all the above?

Thanks for posting.

Actualy his vest is for our sponsors! It is just a spandex material so it has no warming factor to it. I am sure it does help his underbelly from loosing hair though. We have NUTRO patch on it in most of the pics as they are a food sponsor for Moose and our Pit Bull Terrier - Rajah. Then the one competition it has the Cabela's patches on it as through Dock Dogs you can earn/win gift certificates to Cabela's depending on how your dog does. In that competition we won a $50 gift card from Moose! I was so proud of him! The reason he doesn't have it on in some pics is plainly because I didn't feel like it! I also like to get some pictures of him with out the vest to show his color.

They had dock jump on Outdoor channel tonight. A GSP made the top 4 named Tanner. Winning jump was 23' 2" and 2nd 23' both were Labs. I wish had time to train for something like this. I think my Jack Russell could do pretty good.

They also had a height competion does Moose compete in that also?

We have a few JRT such as Forrest Gumpy and Miss Molly that jump bigger than some of the labs. All breeds are accepted as long as they are 6 months old or older. Tanner is a sweetie that comes from Des Moines IA and Sue Barnes' MyTDog / club 3D. He won the Veteran Division at 8 1/2 years old at nationals this year as well as the Master class with a 25'2" (if I recall correctly). He also won the Gracie Award wich is for veteran dogs. Had Sue crying like a baby. He also is a great bird dog as she trains dogs and competes sometimes with him. It is nice to see something other than a lab sometimes in the finals. Record holder is a greyhound/coonhound mix named Country that has the record set at 28'10" in Big Air and the EV record at 7'10". Anyone near St Louis this weekend, Dock Dogs will be at the St Louis Boat Show. Beth, do you know where Ultimate Air will be soon? Maybe you can post that if anyone wants to see it.

Thanks for posting Carla! There are a few different organizations that put on events. Moose doesn't do the verticle yet. Maybe this year. He loves it on the ground but bring it to water and that is another story!

Here is the Ultimate Air Dog Schedule for the next month or soooo.....

Feb. 15-17 King of Prussia, Pennsylvania
Feb. 16-17 Minneapolis, Minnesota
Feb. 16-17 Jacksonville, Florida
Feb. 29- March 2 Outdoorama, Novi MI

You can go to www.utlimateairdogs.net and see more details on where in the state the events are. Also on March 1 there is a Dock Dogs meeting at Cabela's in Dundee MI for a new club here in Michigan. I am going to be at the event in Novi so won't be able to make it but it would be great to hear that some of you were able to go to get more info!
