Thanks,

The avatar picture is my dad and me and "Speck", the first bird dog I remember. Picture was probably taken in 1949 or 1950.

I was fortunate to grow up with bird dogs, guns and a bird hunting dad.

I have written about Speck here - http://quailtales.blogspot.com/2006/02/ ... ne-it.html

The car dates back into the late thirties I think. Must have been one you had had for a while.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Ezzy, I don't think you know everything after all. I believe that car is a 1948 model or close to that. I could be wrong, but what's the possibility of that??? mtjim, Great selectionI Is he a Belton? Do you belong to the NLGDC? If not, I'll be glad to sign you up. 8)

Steve, I am looking at the front fender and it appears to larger and seperated from the hood more than the 40's cars. We had a 35 plymouth and then a 41 Ford but you may be right if the fender is closer connected than what I thought the picture indicated.

hunted with hawks
I have a friend in Bellevue NE hunts with falcons and a hawk. Way kewl to see them in action after the dog points I flush he lets the raptor fly and wap bird goes down. Way kewl to watch. I was lucky to get to go along with my dog. He didnt even care about the bird, I collared him on flush just so he didnt get a claw.... them birds can hurt ya.

 My Megan (solid liver GSP) hunted with harris hawks all of her life 12 years in all. She was a very domanant bitch, but I had one hawk Nell who used to fly down and clip her with her wing across the head to make her move quicker. This was incredible to watch.
I put Megan in kennels whilst I went away on holiday up to Scotland, the kennels were brill, I had used them many times before, but unfortunately a bee stung old Megan on her mouth and her wind pipe closed and when the kennel mail went to her to take her for a run she was found dead. That was 4 years ago on July 10th, I have not got over it yet, call me soft but it is the biggest loss I have ever suffered, so sudden, without warning. God I hope I never go through such a horrible thing again. I have not been able to had another GSP yet, too raw even now. I have got a couple of Lab pups as in the pic, but no comparison perhaps as they mature I will be happier, perhaps one day I will get another GSP, Gillian

Mtjim I really enjoyed you Uncle Charlie stories, you should continue them or write a book. You are a talented writer. When you write more give us a heads up on here.

I just posted pics of my irish setter in the BRAGS section.

In about ten days. I will have 4 FDSB registered irish setter pups. One AKC registered Irish setter pup and two AKC registered irish setter adults - all from hard running, and winning field stock.

My embracing of the Dark Side is now complete. :D
