Zip needs a Little Mojo and some plain ol' fashioned luck!

Post by Anaconda Pintler » Tue May 20, 2008 2:57 pm

Need a little mojo for one of my young dogs ZIP! Last week I had her at work with me like every day and noticed she had ate a whole pile of horsehoof clipping since I am a fulltime farrier I see this all the time with no usual outcome. The next day she was in bad shape and I took her to the vet for diagnosis, ASSUMING that the hoof clipping was the culprit we took the necessary means to find and treat that. She stayed at the clinic after really going downhill and the next day I brought her home when I noticed something different about her and she seemed to be in intense pain, the next day she was nearly paralyzed I took her back to the vet and we did more testing this tie a little more thorough examination a whole body workup, what we found was unnerving, She had broken the second vertabrae in her neck which was explaining the paralysis the past day or so from the swelling against the spinal cord! We started immediate nonsteriodal antiimflammatories with really good success, she could walk again and even wag her tail! With some pain meds she again came home under strict care and a panel of orthopedic surgeons reviewed the case and all agreed she should heal fine with little or no nerve damage, that was great news since she is the nicest dog I have ever owned she is a huge running horseback GWP. Right now she is broke thru WSF and I am really proud of her so a little good luck is needed in her favor! Thanks!

It turns out she must have gotten kicked by a horse and nobody knew it!

Here is is pointing during a training session:

Good luck. I thought it was going to be the hoof clippings. My dogs always viewed them as a special treat.

Wishing Zip well and best recovery.
Horses kicks are serious business! I know.... preaching to the Choir!
Mine kicked me in the knee this spring and I jumped up and kicked him right back.
I could swore I heard a Mr' Ed chuckle from him.
I think it did catch him off guard that I kicked him back though.

If it weren't for bad luck, you and your dogs would have no luck at all. I hope your luck is starting to turn, and your dog will be fine. By the way, haven't I seen that Gretchen dog in my neighborhood before?

Best wishes and I'm glad to hear that it sounds like she will heal okay.

The last time I kicked a horse, it barely felt it--but I got a jammed up foot that still occassionally aches a year later. I think the horse won that one! Denise

Nice dog hope shes feeling better soon. "bleep" horses like I said in the other thread about field trialing without them, the buggers will hurt you bad when your least expecting it.

Theres good reason the automobile was invented. ANd yes I'm just ranting we have three of the darn things, I dont hate horses by any means, but I do worry when my dogs go near them. They are so unpredictable.

Unlucky dog but lucky to have you as the owner. I'm sure your quick action made a big difference.

I've had two narrow misses (inches) by a milk cow and a 13 y.o. mare (no wonder I don't like that number). Both would have caught me square in abdomen or chest. Talk about luck!

Yeah Brenda, we found a spot under her jaw where the skin had been torn back, creating a flap that closed back over could not see it until it hardened (scabbed) a few days later. But she is doing very well I am still hoping for a full recovery, with all these folks sending best wishes I am sure it will happen! That is the thing about this site everyone is sincere and genuine when something takes place both negative and positive! All you have to do is read the congrads and such in the Brags section to see that. Again thanks everyone she really is a nice dog and I am extremely proud of her to this point!

I'm glad to hear Zip is on the mend. That must have been so scarey. We feel so helpless when our four legged friends are in pain. Here's a lot of Mojo going out to Zip!
