Selling a gun in KS?

Post by RuttCrazed » Mon Jun 02, 2008 10:11 am

Anybody know the best way to sell a gun in Kansas? I was going to try Craigslist, but it says that is prohibited. Should I just take it to Cabelas or BassPro?

What do you have for sale?

Take it to a gun store and see if they would be interested. You can have them facilitate an out-of-state sale by using their permit. If you are just selling it to another individual you can do just that. I have bought and sold guns from/to private parties and never had any problems. Dont know exactly what the law says about that but thats the way I have always done it. I do know a couple of guys that are REALLY into guns and may be interested in something like that. Shoot me some pics and spec info via email and I may be able to help. I could also list it on my site if you want. Good Luck!

I don't know about Cabela's but Gander Mountain wants to make at least a 20% profit off of their used guns. Usually you will do better in a private party transaction. Items seem to sell pretty well in the "Buy, Sell, Trade" section of this site. Did you post there?

Hey Rutt try the BulletHole in Olathe if they wont take it they would know where to, or let you list it at the store you'll have to look them up, been a long time since I've been there to remember.

Post it here and on http://www.shotgunworld.com in the classifieds section of the forum. Guns regularly trade there.

You can ship the gun to anyone in the US via the post office or UPS. But you have to ship to an FFL, and they need to provide you with a copy of their FFL's license. This is routine, and no big deal. I have bought several firearms online. It really is a no-brainer, especially on the selling side, because you receive the funds before you ship.

Of course, if someone in KS wants to buy it, you can do a face-to-face.

You will get what the gun is worth selling it yourself. You will likely get poor value selling to a gunshop.

Several guns per day trade on shotgunworld's forums, and people have good experiences. You might refer them to your history here, so they can be comfortable that you aren't a scam.

Anyway, it won't cost you anything to post a few classifieds on these too sites. Guns that trade have pics posted, and good descriptions of the equipment - and age, about how many rounds shot, where you got it, any nicks or dings, etc.

Good luck,
Gary

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Chris,
I will send you some pics via e-mail.

I will look into the other options as well, I have never heard of the Bullet Hole, but I will definately check it out.

Gar-Dog,
My wife is adjusting to life in the mid-west very nicely! :)
