They just had a baby.
He'll turn two next month and I worked with him last summer, so I knew he was a 'cranker'.
Can you guess what line he's from?

Re: Whats Style to you ?
Thx Ross. I do not have nearly 1/10th of the experience many of you all have, but I am now starting to "go through" dogs to find some good ones. The story on this one is that she came back to the kennel, due to a family "situation". I need a player in the game this spring due to the fact my setter really did not make the cut. Kennel owner asked if I would like to come and take a look at her. I have seen and judged her littermates and they run to the front and find birds (and are qualified for Championships). We put this little female on the ground literally 10 minutes after she arrived and this was a point from about 15-20yds on a libby. Nice run, loves to go with you, socialized, hit the woods first and came out on a fence row to the front. We will see what she does this spring...it is her last derby season. I am done getting my hopes up, if she runs and hits birds like her sister & brother, it should be a fun spring. She has had 40 grouse shot over her already this past fall. Plus been on the prairies in North Dakota. Time will tell...may make a nice b@#%h for a Guard Rail stud...know of any? http://www.gundogforum.com/album/d/1204 ... 98e00365c7 Hey on her pedigree are you familiar with "Blue Valley Toby"

Re: Whats Style to you ?
Hey Howie, where the heck did Joey come from!? He's beautiful!!
Re: Whats Style to you ?
No 'but' about it, that is the desired size as far as I'm concerned. As long as they have good bone, which he does ...and there is no doubt that he was Elhew bred.Joey was a smaller male about 45-48lbs but well perportioned.
Beautiful animal Howie.

Howie that might be the best looking pointer I have seen, for me its a toss up between Ross's Gent, your dog and Brett Bryan's b&w male he posted on here. Nothing classier than a stylish pointer.

Re: Whats Style to you ?
I really appreciate the compliment. There are some really good looking bird dogs in this thread. Style don't help them find birds, but it sure is nice to see when they find birds.ACooper wrote:, Howie that might be the best looking pointer I have seen, for me its a toss up between Ross's Gent, your dog and Brett Bryan's b&w male he posted on here. Re: Whats Style to you ?
Style is not just how a dog looks on point. It certainly is not how good their nose is or how many birds they find. Style is the class the dog shows while it is doing it's job. A dog with class makes you sit up and take notice when you see them work. (Doing their job, not the result) They have a smooth and effortless gait with high head and tail carriage while running and on point. If your dog plows dirt with its tail while it runs, but finds birds and your happy then that is all that counts. That dog just is not doing it with style.

Re: Whats Style to you ?
PkerStr8Tail ,
I agree. I don't like watching a dog with a dead tail. I love a dog that shows me he's happy about the task at hand. It's a whole lot more enjoyable for me to watch. Don't like a choppy gait either. Nice fluid motion that makes it look effortless. A lot of things go into making a really nice one.

Re: Whats Style to you ?
PKR I agree with what you say but I call what you are talking about being Class, the way a dog moves, covers ground, ticks or whips their tail.Ross told me GSPS don't whip their tale because they don't have a tail to whip.Agreed but a GSPS can still show you a busy tail that would be whipping if it were long it's still there & if you don't think so I can show you a few.Style to me is the way a dogs points his birds,I think we both agree just use different terms.

Lucy. I've never tried to dress up her tail, sometimes it's straight, sometimes a little crooked.

Re: Whats Style to you ?
Now that's a BIRDDOG!! Very nice!
EDIT: No wonder! I just looked at her pedigree and I knew this dog's (Indian Brook's Autumn) daddy VERY WELL!! His name was Woodland's Lord Hanschen. He was the GSP breed's very first MH and a multi-time UT 204 and Invitational qualified dog (pre-VC). He was the finest GSP I ever hunted behind.

This is where she hit the scent cone (shows the little Guard Rail dot on her head )
And this is where she holds it after she cranks up a bit.
