Style is a lot of things... and different things to different people. I used to run Springers and the differences between Pointers and Flushers gave rise to different opportunities for style. When a pointer gets into a scent cone it starts to ratchet down so it doesnt bump the bird but a springer hits the after-burners and all heck breaks loose. There is a lot of style in breaking heck! The first true point my ES ever nailed was (to me) the prettiest thing I had ever seen. I don't think any breed has a corner on the style market.... but some individual dogs do. Style is what makes me smile.

Style to me is a dog's look on point. Class is that dog moves when going about the business of finding game. I've got a few dogs that will make me grin when
I watch them point their birds. This one here I got from Ross, and to me, he has a ton of class on point.

I can watch a dog like Bella point birds all day long. She's niceeeeeeeeee.

Let me tell yall a story about Red, the lemon/white dog pictured above. This past hunting season, Chasin Mearns, my buddy Eddie and I were all getting after Gambel's quail north of Phoenix in an area called Burro Creek. We had Red with us and he "got away" from us about 9:00 in the morning. We looked and looked and hollar'd and hollar'd till dark...no dice. Fast forward to 10 days later and I get a call at work from some javelina hunters down at Burro Creek. They had found Red...alive but skin and bones. My daughter and I drove 2.5 hours in a driving rain to get Red, returned home with him and nursed him back to the size you see him now. Lucky thing the creek was wet, as without water he wouldn't have made it that long. Moral of the story? GARMIN.

Because of the training mishaps with quail I had to go back to the check cord and pigeons in a release. My setter caught a few quail and was really creeping in before establishing point. This is from this morning and her second session with pigeons. I didn't have to hold the check cord and she was establishing point on first scent.

Image

I am starting to work on steady to wing right now and after this picture I popped the bird and it flew to a nearby tree. She stayed in place due to my whoa command. this is after the second flush.
