Hey im getting a english setter puppy in the next few weeks and it will be my first bird dog and although i have a mentor who is going to help me i was wondering if you all had any sugesstions of items i need to buy and if this product was worth the money or if it would be useful

Get a 1/4" x 10' check core, a 1/4" x 15' check cord and a 3/8 x 20' check cord. Start with the short one and change as the pup grows into them.

High quality .22 blank gun, I prefer NEF, a large bird bag, pinch(NOT CHOKE) collar, high quality O or D ring dog collars with nameplates.

I don't like those flat nylon cords. I would make my own before buying that. if you go to walmart, and get some snap rings, and rope you would be better off. You could build 3 checkcords for probably 10 bucks. They have some decent rope there. And to stiffin it up, leave it overnight in water, or give it a viagra.

I'd get 2 and cut one in half for 2 12' cords.

Early check cords are just for pup to drag and get used to. A short, small-diameter, slick and stiff cord works well. I like clothes line cord. Start short with a really light snap. Work up from there.

I screwed this up with my older dog. He won't drag a CC for anything.

There are some good training kits out there. I think LCS has one and I think Macks Prairie Wings has one as well.

take a look a the permatak check cords, they are great and do not get caught or snag on anything. Do a search on permatak and you can see what other people say about them.

Other than that pick out a whistle and start using it early, if you plan on doing any training with the whistle. My dog responds well to it, I use it for change of direction and for recall.

Any old rope and a tailgate will do. Just don't skimp when it comes to BIRDS.
