Sharptail Summer

Post by DGFavor » Sun Sep 07, 2008 6:25 pm

I'd like to extend a huge thanks to Justin Wiseman, Sandstone Creek Gundogs, for allowing me to tag along for 3 weeks of the late Montana summer, enjoying our dogs, our horses, and all that the Montana prairies wanted to offer up. Alex, aka Sharptailhunter, joined us for a couple weeks and a better hunting partner and friend I can't imagine. I took "a few" pics, maybe a couple of 'em will take you there!:

Leaving tommorrow Doug, headed up you did leave some for me mutts and I didn't you? It was good to see you while I was there I wish I could have stayed for a little while after you got there but such is life I will be there for a couple of weeks hopefully it will not be so hot like the first week you was there, lil' Bro (JW) said is has been almost cold in the mornings when saddling up, I can't wait for a little of that after this summer here! Who was the chic on JR I think? Was it Jared's mom? Anyways JW told me he just hoped you had a good time because he said he sure did. I will try to take some pics and do as you did when I return, Don't you just love that ranch though? It is the perfect ranch for what we do huh? Maybe next year my lodge will be done and we can be a little more comfy, complete with a wet bar! Take care buddy! I enjoyed it.

PS Are those shoes still on? I think the county fair excitement had him a little worked up don't you think?
Has nothing to do with luck just boot leather and a fine GWP...

Thank you for the very nice comments!

There should be a couple birds left up there for you guys to chase around. I tried to wild 'em up as much as I could but I bet your dogs'll still get a few of 'em pointed AP and Rick!! Of course, by the time Jason gets there, he'll need his rifle to bag one!!

Yes, JW was using his Garmon system that Alex finally was able to get working for him after a year of not being able to get it too work. The antenae lasted all of 10 minutes but it still would work well enough to find dogs close by. He's getting the new collar for it and should be a real nice system.

Jason - I used a Sony Alpha 700 camera body with Sony G series 16-105 and 70-300 lenses when I wasn't riding a horse. On the horse, I used same camera body but a much less expensive Tamron 70-300 lens. Great hobby to roll into about any outdoor activity and so challenging capturing wildlife that doesn't want to cooperate with flushing/running in the right directions to optimize lighting, etc. Really fun and I appreciate JW, Alex, and Jerrid putting up with me taking photos of everything and laughing at me when I'd shoot a bunch of pics, look at my camera, say "I'm such a dumba$$!" then delete 'em all!!

DG,

Although somewhat belated, as always a very envious thank you for taking us there.

I'm getting close though. I recently had to say no to a weekend in Wyoming at the Region 8.

How far from the Milk River were you all?? I am a big deer hunter mostly bow hunter. That sure was some great art in that slide show. That last buck that was in that slide show probably would score well into the 160's.

Great art work and it looked like a great time with great dog work.

Thanks for the memories Doug. The only good thing about the time out working dogs and horses together is that it is now a couple days closer to doing it again. Take care. JW
