What kind of dog do you have?????
What kind of dog do you have?????
Most of us know what each other have, but there are more newbies nowadays so I guess we'd better list em out, shouldn't we?
I guess I'll know the answer to that question if it disappears by Grant overnight!!
As for me my dad and I have a total of 4 Brittany's. 1 is 4 years old, 1 is 3 years old, 1 is 3 months old and 1 is 6 weeks old.
The oldest is the father to the one who is 3, the one who is 3 months is a grandson to the one that is 4, the one that is 6 weeks old is also a grandson to the one that is 4 years old. How many of yall are confused yet?

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!
Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

New to posting here but I have 3 GSPs and a rescue that is mostly gsp I think. Been hunting and training GSPs for 30 years now for hunting, everything.

How do you like your setters? I find they are the nicest looking of all the gun dogs but not too practicle here with all the burs. SHe is really choped by the end of the season.LookoutDog wrote:2 Red Setters (2 1/2 and 1 1/2 years old)
1 Lab (6 years old)
1 mutt rescue (looks to be mostly Border Collie... got her five years ago when she was about a year old)

Ryan,
I think they're great dogs -- but of course I'm biased. While I've hunted with all different kinds of breeds, I'm actually a rookie when it comes to owning bird dogs. I got my first red setter two years ago and the second last year have thoroughly enjoyed them. They're terrific pets and awesome in the field for being young dogs and my inexperience as a handler.
Yes, the grooming can be a bit of a pain when they get into the cockleburs -- particularly when you're getting home late after a day in the field and it's dark and miserably cold outside (like in the 30s!). But I really don't mind it too much. It forces me to give them a good check over for nicks, cuts, ticks, etc.

What do you have ?
Currently have 8 & 8 is enough
GSP - 13 yr old - retired female
GSP - 6 yr old was a male
Weim - 2 yr old male
E Setter 5 1/2 male
E Setter 15 mos male
E Setter 15 mos female
E Setter 3 mos female
E Setter 3 mos female
The bottom 4 are my trial dogs ( Coverdog ) since I hunt mostly grouse & woodcock. The cockleburrs aren't some bad in the grouse woods. If I pheasant hunt we usually shave the dogs down for early season.
Longhairs hunt fine in the december late season here with snow & cold temps, where the Weim & GSP fall short.

1-19 month old GSP bitch "Annie"
1-10 month old GSP bitch "Gracie"
1- 6 year old fixed male dachshund "Oscar"
1- 5 year old Fixed bitch dachshund "Candy"
1- 4 year old Basset bitch "Daisy Mae" and her 11 week old grandaughter "Emma Rae"
We wouldn't give up any of them. Although all of our future dogs are likely to be GSPs, since we enjoy showing and training them to hunt. Yes you guys made another gun dog "junkie".
