I would like to start my first post by introducing myself. My name is Caleb, and I love bird hunting and bird dogs! I am excited to become a part of this wondrous forum. BTW, thanks 12 VOLT for telling me about this place.

Excitedly,

Welcome Caleb.

You folks from Utah are giving me a huge case of home sickness. I had to move from there about 4 years ago for job and family reasons and I've been missing it ever since. Still trying to figure a way to get back. Looks like when retirement rolls around will be the only way and thats a looong way off.

Hunted with a guy who used a brace of Gordons...Don't see many around Indiana....some of the best dogs I've ever hunted behind...didn't range as far as English Setters.

great
i took a trip up to norm's last friday, got to hold a few puppies one was a choc and he was a love very tempting.
my gordon is from there and he'll be 2 this wed so i took him up there so norm could see what a good dog he is. norm kept a male "bing" and a female "louisa" out of same litter as buddy, you should can tell they're brothers and sister.
norm's writing another book and we talk about what was in a few chapters. also his last book is going to be reprinted this fall(black & tan bombshell). i've always wanted to buy that one but it's going for about $250.00 a book  i'll wait for the reprint.
nice to have you on this forum hope you enjoy your gordon, look forward to hear about his progress.

Norm is a fantastic guy. Can't wait till the new book, and you can bet i'll buy the re-print. (some were going for 300+ on amazon) Also they have been fantastic at helping me get Gur registered through American Field. (cant reg. the choc's here in america with AKC!)

She seems to be one heck of a dog thus far, and it good to know there are other satisfied springset owners outhere on this forum.

He sure breeds a nice dog....

choc gordon

Post by sdgord » Mon Jul 18, 2005 9:51 pm

Pretty pup, Norm Sorby always seemed to be one of the few that would admit to having an "off colored" puppy on occasion. When you look back at the earliest paintings of the Castle Gordon there is not a dog there that looks like our modern version of the Gordon. I have seen several breeders now that have produced a red gordon and some with a ton of white. Kind of a shame the AKC cant bring themselves to register them. And Norms book, I got a copy on Ebay for less than $100.00. There must be places and book stores somewhere that have a few copies and just dont know what they are worth.SDGORD

I think breed clubs decide what they will allow when they write a standard. AKC just records what the breed wants and doesn
t make the decission what to register.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.
