Re: Speaking of frozen semen?
I had Chairman (the dog in my avatar) collected through a vet in Las Vegas. The initial costs was around $200.00, which included a semenanalysis (sp), and collection. Each collection after runs about $100.00. Storage runs $60.00 a year.Karen wrote:What does it run to collect and store?

Same here 200 initially, $50 storage, does not matter how much you have in storage, same price.
Chip
oops forgot to add, DNA requried, and that was with an analysis as well.

I was almost POSITIVE that I'd open this thread; Speaking of frozen semen.........................it was -18 degrees here this morning!
Re: Speaking of frozen semen?
If you have a vet like mine you can collect it yourself ( he refuses to do the dirty deed  ) . So that can save you one the collection and then you only have the analysis and storage fees.

Re: Speaking of frozen semen?
Is anyone familiar with the AKC's rules on use of frozen semen?
What I'm most interested in is the use of frozen/chilled semen from an international dog (from Italy).
As I understand it, the semen must be extracted by a licensed vet and the dog (and/or semen???) must be AKC DNA certified.
Is this correct?

Serious??? From what I have witnessed the timing from when it leaves the male body to when it is frozen is very crucial. For the best results (the amount of straws per collection) is determined alot on how smooth and quickly this process happens.topher40 wrote:If you have a vet like mine you can collect it yourself ( he refuses to do the dirty deed )
Karen,,,, the International Canine Semen Bank (ICSB) website is a wealth of information. I think they are on the cutting edge,, and through there network I'm sure they could find a vet close to you that they approve of. Another question you will want to figure out is how you want it stored in pellet form or straws? Different vets/storage facilities do it different.
Re: Speaking of frozen semen?
Yeah I can do it at his facility.R-Heaton wrote:Serious??? From what I have witnessed the timing from when it leaves the male body to when it is frozen is very crucial.
