We lost Trish this Weekend...

Post by jhoughton » Sun Dec 21, 2008 5:13 pm

Ray was out in Newington getting ready for the trials this weekend and she was having a great run and just disapeared. Ray spent all weekend without sleep trying to find her and I went out as soon as I got the word she was missing. We combed every place we could get on within 10 miles and there was no sign of her. We are hoping someone finds her and calls, but we are preparing ourselves for the worse right now.

There is hope.
We just had a story here recently where the dog was picked on the road by a farmer and traced back to the owner. Good luck to you. I hope there is a similar ending.

We'll be praying for you.
I know of several occasions where the dog was found more than a week later and was fine. Don't give up hope.

I talked to Ray briefly yesterday and he was very distraught. I had no idea she did not turn up. I am very sick, as she was mine too, in heart:) Wish I could help, but I know you are doing all you possibly can. Have you done any flyers in stores or put out clothing..?

Don't give up hope.

I had the unfortunate luck of living through 2 of my hunting companions last dogs in the Lakes States Region this year and each time the dogs showed up a week later.

Wishing you the best that the dog will be picked up.

Jay,

Give me all information that you can about Trish. I will post her on the Weimaraner rescue site and then it can be spread all over. There are people on Weim rescue who have contacts with so many of the other breed rescues. We are contacted by the shelters when something purebred comes in.

Post pictures everywhere. contact all local animal shelters and veterinarians.

I've known of dogs who have been missing for a month and they get home.

Well, we have done about everything we can to find her. All we can do is hope someone finds her and calls. She had a tracking collar on with Ray's contact info and her regular collar with mine on it. Thanks to all for the kind words...they say you get that "one dog" in a lifetime and she sure was mine.

Just curious if the dog is microchipped also

keep checking daily every late afternoon for a dog matching the description some time and i ahve seen this happen on quite a few occasions where the animal control people do not know breeds well ....like having a setter down as a dalmation cross :?

even call emergency vet centers for dogs turned in

well say some prayer for a safe eturn

also keep tabs on local newspapers and even feeds stores for found dog signs
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
"When I hear somebody talk about a horse or cow being stupid, I figure its a sure sign that the animal has outfoxed them." Tom Dorrance

Where did you lose her? Why not post a picture & some info here? Did you contact the local police, animal control, and shelters?

I hope you find her!

That is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! Congrats.

I don't want anyone to think that I am saying anyone did anything wrong at all but I don't understand I guess how a traking collar works. Is there a certian distance and the collar doesn't track any longer?

Moose -

Typically the signal from a tracking collar can be picked up from about 5-12 miles...depending on the terrrain and the type of antenna you have on the handheld unit. In flat terrain with a big, car mounted antenna you might pick a signal from 20 miles.

The bigger the antenna, the weaker(farther away) the signal you can pick up. But a dog running a deer can cover and amazing amount of terrritory in a relative hurry.

Very happy to hear that you got THE call. Happy holidays and keep that renegade lcoked up...at least until after New Years!

Ray-
Thanks for the explenation. As you can tell I have never had a tracking collar! :-) I do totaly agree at how fast a dog can run. Especially a hunting dog!

As one can see with having to drive now 5 hours to get their dog. But I am so overjoyed for them that they found her! :D

Whooooo Hoooooooo!!!!!! I'm so happy that Trish has been found.

Jay, I know that this will be a VERY Merry Christmas at your house! That's about the best Christmas present that you could have recieved.

I had the pleasure of seeing Trish (I think it was her) last Feb. at the Gordon Setter trial in GA.

Ain't that the way it happen's. I lost Katie one time for ten day's and she had tags on her collar with Dunn's ID center on them. The guy that found her and picked her up called them three times and they didn't know what to do, shoot they HAD my phone number. My ex-wife lost rags once but only for a day. we found him about where she had turned him loose the next night. He just showed up wwhile she was calling. I was up a long hill about a mile in the dark! She said she hugged him and kissed him and called him a M'er F'er! BTW, she also turned off her radio so I had no idea what was going on!

My heart just dropped when I read the subject on this thread......I'm so glad to hear everything is going to be ok. I can only imagine the gut-churn that comes wiht a lost dog and that's why I picked up a Garmin Astro for my new pup. I took her out last night in a heavy snow (so I left the Astro at home) to burn off some energy at a local wildlife area and she didn't come back right away and I was nervous as heck. I should probably get her "chipped" as well......
