Anyone know much about the United Field Trialers Association. They seem to have some trials close to my area but I haven't heard much about them. Just thought I would check here before inquiring. Thanks!

Its a blast. I judge and run in them. One thing I have noticede is you either love it or hate it. It is a tournament type of trial...

You get 20 minutes to find 3 birds. THe scoring is cut and dry...no objective opinions involved.

You get points for...

The point
Retrieve-either full or partial
Bird bagged
Unused shells (only allowed 6)
Extra time (any time left under 20 minutes)
Shot bird (I.e. no safety)

I think that covers it

Roger Johnson runs them at Haymarsh in Morley, not far from you and the MI folks come to our events now and then as well.

I read through everything and it sounds like a blast! Once I get a hunting dog again (going through two youngsters with training) I will have to look into this more!

I am on my second year running UFTA trials. I cant get enough. I started when we moved from Illinois to Indiana. Since I didn't know anyone and didn't have any places to go I needed something, and this was it for me. I never ran any trials before then I was just a hunter with a dog. Now I can't imagine not running these trials. I have met some great people and I would recomend it to any one that is a bird hunter.
