Pointer pup...
Hey guys,
I have a friend who is looking at buying a pointer pup... He lives in Kansas, and would prefer to stay in the area, but is willing to travel. The dog will be hunting, live in the house with him and foot trialed in some AF stuff. Any opinions on kennels, lines, pups etc would be appreciated. I'm not looking to start a fight, so if you have had poor experiences with a particular kennel, shoot me a PM. Thanks for your help guys...

Re: Pointer pup...
Check out Shady Meadows Kennels, located just inside Missouri from the Kansas line. I'm waiting for my new pup from him. Shawn the owner seems like a really nice guy and I can't wait to pick my new pup from him. He has English Pointers and German Shorthair Pointers. All lines have the pedigrees to be good hunters.

Tony King in Thompson, Missouri (near Columbia) has a nice Fiddler bred male pup he is wanting to sell. The pup is 12 to 15 weeks old and he is selling it so he will have room for an upcomng litter of puppies. It's a nice dog. His number is 573-239-1665. Tony is a very nice man that will shoot you straight.

Re: Pointer pup...
Get a hold of Topher on this site and/or check out the Kansas Hunting Dog Club, I believe it is http://www.kshdc.com. They host aftca walking trials, I know a few members own champion pointers. This would be a good way to stay close enough to home to go and check out the pups in person and odds are that the sire and dam are hunted and trialed in terrain similar to what you would be running in. Tony King is also producing some real nice dogs in Missouri.

I have an Elhew that came to me third hand from Nitro Kennels in Missouri. You might try them. I really like my male. He is a heck of a quail dog but not much on running pheasant.

Re: Pointer pup...
I'm actually posting for a friend... He's wanting a pup. He currently owns two pointers (one is lame.. She can run but not for extended periods of time...) And he got both of them as older dogs, and is wanting a pup to start from beginning. He foot trials and hunts pheasant and quail.. Ducks too, but we all know pointers don't swim and retreive..smoothbean wrote:How old of a pup are you looking for. Want something started?

I forgot to mention Harris Kennel, they are raising some nice pups. The pups I have seen were very well cared for.

Re: Pointer pup...
The only problem with Harris Kennels is that they dont raise AF Shooting dog material. I say this with confidence because Jim will tell you the same thing. They raise BIRDDOGS for the BIRDHUNTER, not AF trial stuff. Talk to Jim and he will tell you the same thing, not bashing.

Topher,
With direct daughters of Addition's Go Boy and Rock Acre Blackhawk being bred to his direct son of Guard Rail.....that could change. The dog my Dad has he purchased to hunt though. She is the pup second from the top on their puppy page.

Big Dave-
I agree although Jim will tell you that his niche is the gun dog, not the trial dogs.

Chris,
Yes, a gundog is what my Dad wants but I think Jim is trying to produce more trial dogs than he used to. He has a couple of Blackhawk/Southern Justice females and bred one of them to Erin's Bad River.

Re: Pointer pup...
I am having a litter around the first of June. The dam (Les'n Learned Dolly) is a granddaughter to Elhew Seahorse, Elhew Royalty, and Deep Creek Kate. Super classy, runs a medium race, poker straight 12 o'clock tail all the time, has a beautiful gate, and is an absolute sweetheart. I bred her to my male who is finishing up his first year Horseback Open Shooting Dog campaign. He (Les River Runner aka "Chase") is out of Gailen's Lotto x Delaware River Babe. He won the Midwest Open Shooting Dog Derby of the Year last year. He has several full brothers and sisters that are winning in the walking trials, including one who won the National Amateur Walking Championship as a first year broke dog. He is a big running, super classy dog, with a poker straight tail 12 o'clock tail, he never out runs his tail and he has a motor that never stops! I'm going to sell them very reasonable, just because it is the first litter for both dogs, and I don't know what they will produce. First foremost I have to get the pups! Let me know if your friend is interested, I am located in Central Nebraska and with him being in Kansas he has probably seen several of Chases' brothers and sisters competing.
