Teeth chattering when smells girl pee

Post by collinedward » Fri May 08, 2009 7:44 am

I am picking up my female puupy tonite. I notice when my male dog smells female dog pee his teeth chatter and starts to drool alittle . Is this something he'll stop after having a female around or will he always do this? Its kinda of annoying. Cause if not I will have to switch to another male..

These females you are talking about, Is it every time or just on occasion. If a female is in heat that can trigger the teeth chattering. Maybe every female in your area is in heat all the time. I have a teeth chatterer at home also. He even does it when Janet comes into heat.

Buster is a good warning signal for me. When I see him start acting up and my females are not ready to come into heat; I know I need to be on my best behavior for the next week and a half.

It shouldn't be a big deal as all he is doing is trying to get the scent if the female is coming into her heat preiod. It's like the deer or cows that curl their upper lip.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

I would be surprised it would be any female. Vern and Darius do it, but only when there is a female in heat in the immediate vicinity. They will do it around other females, but there is still a female in heat somewhere else close by.

Is he a young dog? A young dog will tend to do it a little more, with females that are not in, as they haven't learned about the birds and the bees yet, and even a little scent from a female in heat somewhere will get them looking at the females that are at hand.

While I would be surprised that he would do it even after she is fixed, and can never have a cycle, dogs surprise me all the time.

Has he been bred? Vern got wiser about what he was smelling after he had been bred a couple of times, and now doesn't get concern himself too much, until just befopre the female is ready to be bred.

You can get you a different male, but you'll be disappointed when you find out he does it too. I've had many male dogs and all of them will lap up their urine and chomp ( or what you call chattering ) and drool and make idiots of themselves. One of my brood bitches just went through her heat cycle and my 2 personal household males would chomp, drool, and tremble excessively. It's not great do deal with, but deal with it you will if you're going to have males intermingling with your females. You will find that once a male has bred to a female, they go on RED ALERT at the slightest whiff of estrus. You either completely quarantine them for 10-14 days (sometimes that does'nt even do it) or you deal with it for 4 weeks out of every year.

Good Luck.

My male pup does it constantly to my fixed female. Everytime she goes out to pee he sniffs and chatters.

My neutered male will do it to my spayed female on occasion, even just sniffing her will do it. And oddly, when my intact bitch comes in season he doesnt normally act any different (though my other neutered boy sure does!). So I'd say it just is the difference in dogs.

So would you get rid of your dog because he gets excited over a female?
