My dog saved me from a beaver...

Post by collinedward » Thu May 28, 2009 10:32 am

Last night I walked down to the creek with the dogs. (Pupp 5y/o gsp and Ellie 12 week gsp) I get down there and the creek was all "bleep" up. After letting the dogs play around for alittle , I started to break the "bleep" down. The dogs roam off a bit while I'm doing this. This apparently pissed off a beaver .... The beaver started coming at me , I start to walk backwards and the beaver is still coming at me but faster. I picked up a rock and threw it at it , still coming though.. Getting worried I call for Pupp. He runs out the tall grass next to the stream and jumps right on top of the beaver. With one clean jerk the beaver was killed .It was like a seen out of Lassie ..

Do not know if you have Rabies there, but you might have the Beaver checked.

Good point Brenda. Never heard of a beaver attacking anyone. You normally can't even get near them.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

A psychotic beaver . . . . that’s a new one! I don’t know if beavers carry rabies, but I would deffinately have it checked. A killer beaver is not normal.

Beaver definately will attack a person & or an animal (especially this time of year), although generally they will slap first a few times. But if tormented contiually and they have little ones around they will act. Collinward count your self lucky it was shallow and your dog caught the beaver by surprise. They will sink a dog if they are in a rucus with em. I don't know how large your beavers are but here up to 40 pounds or more. Having said all this good job by your dog. I like it.
The best part of training is seeing the light come on in your little prot'eg'e.

The first thought that went through my mind when I read your title was "The Blue Collar Comedy Club" DVD with Jeff Foxworthy and the story he told about a Beaver biting off a man's nipple.... funniest story ever.... (GSP Justin - Did you watch that one??! :D :D )
