I know this is off topic, but we went raspberry picking at our new place and have about 2 gallons of black raspberrys with more on the way. What are your favorite treats/recipes for these?

Pies and Jelly........we have a bumper crop of blackberries this year as well, and thats what were doing, amazing year for them.

Freeze them and save a quart for me when I come down on the 18th! ......PLEASE!!!

No problemo. By that time there should still be blackberries left. There is a bumper of those too!

Out here they make a lot of Raspberry shakes. They are very tasty.

You know Justin, I never knew there was such a rhing as black raspberries til this year! I thought they were tiny blackberries for heavens sake! I have a bumper crop here at Wild Mtn too....send those recipes to me as well!!!! Lord knows I'm gonna need em!

It's been cool and wet here and the berries are doing great. We have picked strawberries for 4 weeks and now the rasberries and blackberries are starting. Tomatoes are just loaded and the rest of the grden is beautiful. Am pulling the pea vines tomorrow and the green beans are setting so they will be next plus we have cukes about ready also.

We've already had a ton of zucchini, black raspberries and mulberries, with much more coming. The cucumbers in my granddad's garden have been ready for awhile now too, but he planted them all with perfect timing - got his garden out and ready before my dad and my aunt.

On a less fruitful but just as important note, I finally saw shoots of grass coming up in my yard. Hopefully I'll be rid of the mud put by the end of the summer.

Did you have a mud yard this past year too? We still have parts of the mud yard, but 75% of it is trying-to-survive grass. We are finally happy to not be whiping paws each time the dogs are let out.

Yeah, we moved in our new home early May. The entire front, side and back yard was nothing but dirt. Then we had one of the wettest spring seasons ever. Luckily our driveway is rock and it leads out to grass, so if we could corral our dogs we could get them in and out without running through the mud - but you know how that goes. It's like herding cats.

For the past week or so we've had grass seed planted and the entire yard has been strawed. Last night I noticed a slight green haze around the straw and went to investigate - we have grass shoots finally! Hopefully in another week it will start to thicken up, and hopefully by the end of the summer most of the mud will be under a carpet of green.

I have one word for ya'll....COBBLER!!! Just made a blackberry cobbler this past weekend! I don't have the recipe in front of me but if you google "bisquick cobbler" it will come up somewhere I'm sure! I did have to send hubby for vanilla ice cream to go on it. Yeah yeah came off the diet for COBBLER! LOL! Carl polished it off last night so it's gone from the house thankfully! Kristi

Hey totally understandable! It was a busy day for everyone I think....We got there late and I know alot of folks had other things to do so got there early and left early. We were one of the last ones out, lol...NICE grounds! Need some work in some areas but I was pleasantly surprised! Especially excited that people heard bobs calling in the morning! Is your club having a trial there this fall? Kristi

Did somebody say blackberry cobbler? Happens to be my favorite and I have not had homemade blackberry cobbler since I left my home state of Louisiana and moved to the driest place on earth- the Oklahoma panhandle- where cactus and yucca are lucky to have enough water to live. I really miss homemade blackberry cobbler. I would even trade out a guided pheasant or quail hunt for one of those if you know anyone interested.

We froze 4 large cookie pans worth yesterday and picked another today. They are starting to thin out between us and the critters. In a day or two we are going to call it quits and focus on the blackberries alone. We are starting to get a few here and there. They are big and plentiful.

Kristi - our club is having a trial there and it will be mostly open to all pointing breeds. October 10-11th. Come and try it out! If I didn't mention it before, I only live 20 minutes from the grounds - and I plan on taking full advantage of that. We did hear wild quail calling from the lot. They are Kansas quail transplanted there several years ago. They are surviving there. It appears they are reproducing as well. The DNR siad they are going to trap as many as they can off of the trial grounds and relocate them to other parts of the WMA. They are afraid of too much pressure. Can't blame them.

Anyone willing to share any recipes, especially for that cobbler? I need to get out with my kids and pick some...they were just shy of being ready here in NW Iowa last week.

Here's the bisquick cobbler recipe. I just used fresh berries intead of the peaches.

BISQUICK COBBLER

2 tbsp. butter
1 c. Bisquick
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. milk
3 c. cut up peaches or other fruit of your choice (can be fresh, frozen
(thawed) or canned)

Turn oven to 375 degrees. Melt 2 tablespoons butter in 8 x 8 inch baking dish. Mix Bisquick, sugar, and milk. Pour over melted butter. Spoon fruit over. If using canned peaches, pour on some of the juice also. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes. Can double the recipe. Bake in 9 x 13 inch pan.

We may try to get down to your trial Justin. Since our Brit club could possibly be the first ones in for 2010 we'd like to get an idea of courses, etc. Thanks for being the guinea pigs! LOL! I'm actually looking forward to going to trials there. I'll miss the amentities of Kildeer but I think the nicer grounds will make up for it. Kristi

tommyboy, I don't think the cobbler would ship real well, lol....and it sounds HOT out where you are! So far this summer northern Ohio has been pretty nice! Kristi

We love cobblers of all varieties our basic recipe is:

Place 48 oz of your favorite fresh or frozen fruit in the bottom of a 12" dutch oven.
Put 2 boxes of your favorite cake mix (with pudding) on top spread it out evenly.
Cut and place 1 cube of buttar evenly across the top of the cake mix.
Pour 8 to 12 oz of your favorite diet citrus beverage on top.

Bake for approximatley 40 minutes before you lift the lid (bake until top is golden brown)

We prefer to use charcoal and rotate the oven 1/4 turn to the left and the lid 1/4 turn to the right every 10 minutes.
(do not break the seal while doing this).

This has become one of our families favorites.

What size Dutch oven do you use? How many coals do you put on top vs the bottom? Do you try to bake the cobbler at 350?

Sorry about not posting the dutchoven size.

It is a 12" regular dutch oven. At 6,000 7500 ft I place 10 charcoal in a cirle on the bottom, then ring the top plus two. It usually works out to about 36 coals.

I did not make it clear but the cake mix is put on top of the fruit DRY (we do not mix it).

Blackberries are still a month or two away up here. Blueberries are ripe

Freeze them on cookie sheets so they stay round and dont get smashed in the freezer.
