Well I can tell you that when hunting chukar at least once a year we have Big Horn Sheep run right past us!

Straight up and down with lots of rocks.

I'd post pictures but don't know how.

if you ever get a chance to hunt north western Wa for blacktails.... you're going to need a couple of machettes and a sherpa guide:lol: so thick it's almost impossible to hunt. everyonce in a while the ground you're walking on collapses and you're standing in a three foot deep hole. it ends up being an old rotten tree with hundreds of years of dirt and leaves that piled up on it... my buddy and I left hunting at 630 one morning after we beat ourselves to death and hunted what seemed like all day we came back to the truck and it was 1000...i have never been so tired in my life. and I'm decently in shape (the military makes sure of that) it's rough country....it's even rougher country if you drank a 12 pack of keystone the night before :x this place might benefit from a few controlled burnings

I would say 90% of my bird hunting is done on chukar. The other 10% is a mix of ducks/grouse/quail.

It takes a good broke dog to hunt chukar. One that can hold birds for a long time till you can get to them to make the flush.

sj they sure can but I like to keep them reined in at about 300 yards or so.

Reba you might try going to this website http://photobucket.com/ and open an account then just download your pics from your computer to that site then when you want to post pics to this site you just copy and paste the image or img code directly into your post. If you do not use a site like photobucket then you have to shrink down the size of your photos to get them to post as an attachment. You should be able to post photos the size of 800x600 to this site without cutting off the edge of the photo if you use photobucket or site like it.

I hunt in woods, trees, blow downs, Alder swamps, edges of clear cuts, jack firs on windy or bad weather days. These photos show it with no leaves, It is easier in late fall and winter because the leaves are down.ImageImageImageImageImageImage

If I had taken pics I could show you northern Minnesota ruffed grouse hunting photos that were virtually identical to the photos from Maine above. However, I spend more time walking mile after mile hunting the fields, fence lines, tree lines, cattail sloughs & CRP of ND.

SJK: I use high brass, 71/2's, 20 guage, OU ruger, it is light and fast to the shoulder, act quick, follow through the bird even when he disappears, shoot, hope, pray, and try again when you miss. :? Many times if working with two guys you can almost, almost, almost push a bird in a certain direction. Hopefully a little more air between the limbs and leaves. Just shoot through it and hope. Generally you will have a 40% success rate. Some days are better, most are worse. :(

yeh- we had a resort up there- my Britt was a bit to big a runner- wasn't to good- got a bit close to a bear once- she still didn't want to stay it- I had another Britt that was a 250yrder- much better- the old tax forfeted land that was close had enough duck ponds to make it interesting

Basically down here it's been woods and fields not to far from Lawrence- fairly close ranger with a bigger ranger- nice combo

now over here it's flat treeless lands- I'm partial to the large grass CPR fields

have to decide how far out I want the youngsters going with the adults this season- a believer in what you start them at sets the stage for the future
