Dog house -- keepin him warm, what do you use?

Post by southernblues » Tue Oct 06, 2009 9:32 pm

Now that's fall is upon us -- what does everyone use for bedding in their dogs house? I have an 8 month old Brit and of course he likes to chew on things (especially new) so I'm worried about cedar chips as I've heard that could hurt him.

Thanks
Travis

I use straw, sure you hear of bad things but I have been using it for 20 years and only had one dog that had a reaction to it. Cheap and easy to come by, plus it has a great insulating value with the ability to dry unlike hay.

I generally use straw or marsh grass hay if I can find it, that along with a good quality insulated dog house with a swinging door on it.

I just buy animal bedding from the feed store. I believe it is cedar chips but it may be some other type of wood shavings.

temperature lately has been in the low 40's during the night- I put the blanket the mother had the pups on in the partition- they all sleep together and are warm to the touch when they come out at 6:00am- they haven't chewed or messed in the dog house- had the blanket in the house as they like to sleep on it

normally I use straw and will probably soon be putting some in
