Marsh hay, anybody have any; coming south?

Post by gunner » Sun Oct 11, 2009 6:21 am

I'm looking for a source of Marsh hay for dog bedding for this upcoming fall and winter.

Is anybody from Minnesota, Wisconsin or Michigan that might have access to a bale or two coming south through Indiana on I 65 or other roads that we could meet near Indianapolis or within reasonable driving difference.

Will pay fair price for hay, time and effort.

Thank you.

Does anybody have Marsh hay available in their neighborhood?

Northern state landscaper often use it as mulch.

Just curious, Gunner ... is it that much better than Timothy hay?

I'm not heading to Indiana anytime soon but, if anyone from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area is & can help Gunner out - Bachman's nursery has Marsh Hay. We picked up a bale last week at the Lyndale store before heading out to ND. We now should have a 3-4 year supply for our two dogs.

Good luck with the search.

I know nothing of "marsh hay," but sure was impressed by how well hay a SD outfitter called "prairie grass" held up in the boxes of dogs transported from there to South Louisiana. Beat any bedding I've seen.
If you think I'm wrong, you might be right.

Well I was using "parrot talk" in my bedding search (i.e., repeating words Mark told me without really knowing what they mean), but it seems the woman I spoke with at Bachman's did call it Prairie Grass. Being from the prairie (SW Minn) I can tell you it is the same grass that grows in the pasture at my parents farm.
