GWP beards
GWP beards
I went to South Dakota on the opener and had a fun time with my 6 month gwp. But he had so many pickers in bottom beard, i had to literally cut them out. Now about a month later, he still looks funny. how long will it take to grow back?

As a result of this:
Mine went from this
To this (Actually this is 10 months later.)
It took well over a year for her beard to return

Re: GWP beards
I don't know, I'm sorry I can't help there. But Winnie's beard gets some stubborn stuff in it and I have found that stuff I didn't think would come out, do come out if I spray some show sheen on it. It's a horse product that makes a show horse shiny, and it's very slippery.
I'm surprised at how long it takes to grow back, but I'm sure glad it does. Az Draht that's a very handsome dog you have there.

Thanks
It looks like my dog and your dog are similar. He has a tight short coat, but his beard is full and soft, ears are the same too. i will have to wait it out.
here he is after the cutting, i only had to cut below the jaw, not above.

Re: GWP beards
My first gwp i had when i was a kid had a very full coat and great beard. The black and white GWP i have now has a very flat coat and he doesn't have a beard. The breeder said he would grow one as he got older but i'm afraid he won't be growing one. Everyone thinks he is a short hair due to the flat coat.

AZ Draht, that is nice looking hat you have on.
Re: GWP beards
Most dogs lose a good portion of their beard during hunting season due to burrs and just running cover in general. Mine have a full beard grown back in 4-6 mos and keep it til hunting season starts again.dugger13 wrote:how long will it take to grow back?

Re: GWP beards
When did your dogs grow there beards? I bought a dd about 9 weeks ago now and she is 17 weeks old and no signs of a beard yet. My brother bought a dog out of the same litter and his is already getting his beard. I think that I might end up with a slick faced wirehair. Her wire coat is strarting to come in by her tail on her back, I think that she will have a short, hard, flat coat, that is what I was looking for but I wanted the beard too. I guess only time will tell.
