GSP/Labrador Retriever Mix

Post by rkappes » Thu Jan 07, 2010 4:35 pm

Hey again! We're still looking to adopt a dog from a shelter and came across these puppies, GSP/Labrador Retriever Mixes. Below is the link for the puppies. Just wondering what everyones thoughts are about the mix? Thanks for the input.

Realizing it is not politically correct to cast a vote against getting a pup from a shelter, I still have to say that based on my experiences, I would not do this again. Two dogs adopted as a family pet, two horror stories.

Obviously your choice, but my opinion.

As a family pet, you couldnt get a better dog. Obviously, being a mix it would be a toss up if they will turn out to have much hunting instinct.

They are adorable...its very good that litter isnt at my shelter or I would be getting one!

If want a bird dog go get yourself a bird dog from a legitimate breeder. Puppies are a little bit of a roll of the dice anyway. Your really stacking the deck against yourself by going this route.

Very very cute, I am sure it would make a really wonderful pet, and may be a better gun dog than 90% of dogs in the field. One quick thought. I was bitten by the dog training/bird hunting bug after i bught a show bred springer pup out of the paper. Wonderful dog and companion in the field, but i had to be at peace with the "drive" limitations that the dog had. I was devouring dog and training books, and wishing i had a dog bred for a little more "go" and birdiness. With a lot of work, my show bred springer became a barely passble retriever, but he performed exatcly how he was bred to perform, friendly, laid back, obedient, and handsome.
