Need pup name ideas please :)

Post by Munster » Mon Mar 08, 2010 12:59 pm

I am importing a new SM pup from Germany and am looking for name ideas. Iam not very good at coming up with original names. I wish I could offer the winner a trip to the bahamas or something, but I cant. So you will have to settle for pics of the little bugger.
Below is a picture, although not a very good one. It is a male.
Here are some ideas I liked.

Enzo
Bruno
Axel
Apollo
Yukon
Jager

Thanks

Lots of good names.

All of the names ending in "O" will sound alot like "NO' or "Whoa" from a distance. Might consider that factor...

Best dog I ever owned, I named Gauge. Easy name to yell, and a good hunting reference to a gun. By the way, do you know what gauge means in shotguns? Now, if the Buckeyes win another NC this year my dog is going to be named Jim, or Tressel!

That is actually our house dog's name. Kinda rolls of the tounge we call her D for short.

You could name her Cora Bell. Cora translates to cow (not in german) since she is black and white. Another fun thing to do is go to an english to german translator on the web and type in names they will show you translations and even hear it spoken.

Heres a link for that If you want to try it.http://text-to-speech.imtranslator.net/ ... _de&loc=en

Another Arrow out there? I can't imagine it. I have been working on my next dog's name and finally figured it out I think.

Call name VIDI

short for VINI VIDI VICI and I will add something more to the end to make in a little more interesting.

My current dog was named Arrow in honor of my last dog .....Bo and that was my wife's idea.

Enzo for sure! I sould suggest you read the book " The Art of Racing in the Rain" if you haven't already.. Another good read is

http://www.archive.org/stream/diomedlif ... 0/mode/2up

Dog's don't really respond to the last letter of their name. They react to the inflection of the command and the body language you show.

For example: If you say "Whoa" in a stressed or harsh voice, your dog could care less.
The greatest lesson I learned from my Setter's trainer was TRUST...
Your dog should be your left hand... at home and in the field.

Bella's trainer used only two commands...Hear Hear, and Pup Pup. I learned quickly it was not the words, but the way he said them.
Thanks to him, she is not just my left hand, but an extention of my soul when we work in the field.

"May you all start your day with a dog that makes your heart skip a beat and put's a smile on our face"

P.S. My vote is Enzo!

Careful what you wish for.

I vote for Chunk cause he looks like a big boy.

For some reason "Reco" has been sticking in my head.

Either way I wouldn't put to much effort into it as likely his new big sis will be using him as a chew toy.

An expensive chew toy, but that girl has got some attitude with pups.

Or maybe she too just doesn't like BEARDED DOGS!!

esetterlove, I got Enzo from that book. Pretty good book and an easy read. I will checkout theother book. Although I find myself skimming through the pages of my old training books, getting ready for pup.

Found out the litter will start with "M" so maybe they will have a nice name for him already.

Mahamari, Yes, I think it is going to be tough getting Abby to accept her new buddy. As long as Jim doesnt show it any attention we will be fine. If not, we may find bits of pup here and there! JK :D

Thanks for all the ideas! I think we settled with Max, I know it isnt original.

But a new development means that I may not be getting Max. To long of a story in short the breeder wants to keep the pup he picked for me. So, I am in limbo for awhile til we get it worked out. I am very bummed.

Bummer. I had that same thing happen to me years ago. They told me the very day I was going down to Oregon to pick her up.... I was very disappointed. I did end up with a great dog from another breeder tho, so it all worked out. Hopefully it will work out well for you too.
