Move to Hawaii?

Post by Boxa » Tue Mar 09, 2010 6:58 am

A guy who has one of my dogs has to move to Hawaii. Does anyone know of regulations on bringing pets onto the island, or where to start researching this? Also - I did fwd him an article from Gun Dog Magazine about upland hunting in Hawaii... apparently there are some decent opportunities there for pheasant, chukar, and francolin. Thanks for your input!

Caleb-

Pretty sure the animal will have to stay in 30 day quarantine. It will be treated as an import to the state so I would check with those offices first.

Sorry - it is a 120 q. There is a special 5 day q if the animal meets the requirements.

Thanks for the heads up Art! I'll pass the word along to him.

Have you been through this process at your clinic? I just wondered how involved it would be in a real-world practical situation.

There is a direct release (5-Day-Or-Less Program) at the airport if you meet the requirements. They are very strict and if something is missing they will keep the dog for quarantine. I went through this little over a year ago. What island is he going to?

I suggest reading over the requirements at least 3 times.
