Beyond Brag

Post by Ken Lynch » Mon Apr 05, 2010 10:22 am

AFC Wolf Plain Brooks Sally MH took a 4 point first place win in the Open Gun Dog (retrieving) stake at the NUTMEG GSPC Filed Trial this past weekend. The win completes her requirements for AKC Field Champion title. She is now FC AFC Wolf Plain Brooks Sally MH. So what you might say. A lot of dogs are FC, AFC, & MH. Ahhh, but this dog is an amateur handled SOLID BLACK GSP. Congratulations!!!! to Jen & Dennis Hazel. :D :D :D :D

To all that read this forum. I do not have anything to do with this dog. I happened to be there at the event to run my puppy in the walking stakes and had my camera. I had first met Jen & Dennis Hazel a few years back at a field trial when they first started out. When I found out that the dog had finished her Field Championship I was excited for them because this may be the first Black GSP to have ever accomplished the FC, AFC, & MH titles. I happen to think it is a feat that should be shouted from the roof tops. Thus my post. As for voting No to allow Black GSP in the show ring I happen to feel that No is not the right vote. I would be willing to discuss that subject in another forum.

Ken, that issue has been discussed at length on this forum a couple of times. I didn't mean to hijack your thread, but noting that there is finally a FC/AFC MH black shorthair out there, verifiable, and noting the arguments that were used against black in the last vote, the two subjects are definitely related. I'll create a new topic so as to stop further dilution of your brag here.

And... new topic created!

Unfortunately I had to take my previous posts and Dave's post with the new topic since they were a majority discussion on the breed standard and not so much a discussion on FC AFC Wolf Plain Brooks Sally MH.

Congrats again to Jen & Dennis Hazel!

Ken
First of all thank you so much for thinking of us and writing us a brag.. My husband Dennis is not one to brag. He probably would not have posted anything. Now that you have I will add to it for him.

When we got Sally all we wanted was a pet/hunting dog. My husband liked the black. We entered her in AKC hunt tests. She got her JH, SH, MH without a problem.. She was a MH at age 3. She does have lots of run in her so someone suggested we trial her. We started with a walking trial and won a 3 point major in AGD at her first trial (thanks Bill). It was December of 2008. We horseback trialed her spring 2009. She got her AFC within a handful of trials. We entered her in November 2009 in an open stake. She won another major. We then sent her to be bred to DC AFC Gambles Odyssey Fritz, MH of Walnut Hill Kennel. She whelped a litter of nine, who are all gorgeous. Took care of them ALL faithfully. We just entered her in this trial just shy of 8w of whelping this litter to condition her physically and mentally for trialing. She needed 3 points to complete her FC. She won OGD and received a 4 point major. She just turned four March 16th. I believe Dennis and Sally (his first hunting dog) have accomplished major accomplishments in a short period of time. They work together as a team in silence... No speaking is involved. He may not be a professional, but she sure makes him look like one. She is truly a talented dog.

Congrats Dennis and Sally... and once again Thank you Ken...

I do believe that she is the first black GSP to accomplish these titles. I am proud of her and Dennis..

If they do allow the black GSP in the show ring, you can bet Dennis will be right there making his best friend a DC.

A limit on the strap is nice, but the kill has nothing to do with tradition.

Congratulations on Sally's new title.

Dennis & Jen are really nice people and are very deserving of their recent win and finishing Sally.

I've seen Dennis handle and I would have scouted for him in this brace. I believe his son scouted for him and I think that's great. I'm sorry I didn't get to see the performance but people in the gallery came in and said she was the dog to beat. Sally won in a large open stake with some quality pros running their strings.

Again, great dog, good people, nice family. It's terrific to have been there for it.

Dennis was beaming, an ear to ear grin. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Thanks John
We really did have a great time. Good people, great dogs, fun times. Great job with Natasha by the way... I watched the brace and she did a wonderful job.

The kids did have fun and Tyler did enjoy his first scouting assignment with his dad. It will be memorable. All turned out good for them. Wish I got to watch the brace..

What a can of worms!!!!

I met Dennis last summer at a Mayflower GSP Club field training day. I was impessed with his easy going, happy-go-lucky, yet confident demeanor. I was even more impressed with the three dogs he brought to work that day. Sally was one of them- Tucker & Raven, the other two. I could be so lucky to have a regular training partner in someone like Dennis.

I met Jen a couple months later at another dog event and she was & has been very friendly, helpful & kind to my boys and I ever since.

This accomplishment couldn't have happened to a more deserving couple IMHO.

Cheers! :D

Thankfully all the pups were spoken for early all to wonderful homes.. They all left the nest on Thursday. Thanks for the compliment on the liver pup. She is a looker. We are keeping her. Her name is Sky. Wolf Plain Brooks Sky is the limit. :D
