Kentucky/Southern Indiana/Ohio Training?

Hi, I have a friend who would like to get started in AKC hunt tests, walking trials, etc. She has some experience from a few years ago but would like to find a training club, places to train, places to buy birds, etc. She's in the Louisville, KY area. I gave her the info for the Kentuckiana Pointing Breeds club. Also if anyone knows of a trainer in her area who would do some sessions with her and her dogs that would be great. She can come up to our place to train with us but that's a 5 hour drive so not doable during the week or on a regular basis. Thanks for any suggestions! Kristi

Jonsey is a good recommendation. Mark Payton may be closer, across the river near Elizabeth, IN. He'd be a good contact person for sure.
Here's some info on his new training book and DVD for FF pointing dogs that I hear is the best one available. Anyway Mark can be reached at the address within this thread. He may be a member here as well.

Pike County Bird Hunters in Pike Coiunty Indiana near Petersburg IN allow 4 wheelers and there are people in the area that sell birds. The do NSTRA and have held AKC stakes there in the near past. On the web, Google them up or shoot me a PM

Thanks! Found Pike County on the web and realized we went to a field trial there last year. Nice place!

Forwarded Marks info to her also. So now she has some leads to follow up on. Thanks! Kristi

Kristi,

I have been going down there quite a bit. Training and such. I know quite a few people in the All Breed Club down there. You can give them my info and I can try to help them out when I'm there/introduce them to some folks.

That reminds me. Art- who do I contact to join the Wayne County Coonhunters club? I told Carl as soon as he gets called back to work we'll go ATV shopping. That brought a smile to his face- nothing like dangling a new toy in front of a guy! Actually its for my dog who disappeared for most of his 30 minute all age brace last weekend. This weekend went better- he kept in better contact but blew up on a bird anyhow. We're needing a 4-wheeler to train off of with him for sure! Kristi

Holly was one of the people I was talking about....and the such reason for me going down there so much (Really - she's only reason I've been heading down that way - we just happen to run dogs from time to time while I'm there). :D
