New litter of pups!

Post by Birdhunter1 » Sat Dec 31, 2005 3:09 pm

Just had a litter born this morning. 8 puppies delivered and 7 survivors, can't ask for much better than that.
This is out of my male and my female, both excellent hunters and people friendly dogs!

Congrats! Do you have pedigrees on them and are the parents OFA'd? Wiuld be interested in seeing the pedigrees.

They both have papers. What is OFA?

http://www.offa.org

This is an evaluation of the hips which is certified by the OFA program and those dogs with permant ID such as microchip or tattoo will be recorded also on the AKC pedigree..OFA helps in letting those who are going to purchase a pup know that the parents hips are good and free of showing signs of Hip Dysplsia..it isn't a gaurantee but having parents that are OFA fair or better your chances of producing a dyplastic pup are consideralbly reduced specially if there is a history built up of OFA'd dogs in the back ground which is viewable on the OFA website..I personally prefer good or excellent for my breeding program

For example K Nine's Beeline Bullet this is my stud dogs OFA results http://www.offa.org/display.html?appnum=1130454#animal

Congrats on the pups

Not a big fan of OFA, I had a vet explain the drawbacks and inconsistencies of OFA. I must say for verification of hip condition I recommend Penn-hip.

The Vet that does a Penn-hip test must be certified to do so.

Good Luck with you pups.

Rob

Both are excellent. I wouldn't even try to judge the merits of one against the other. Just know we need to do everything possible to get the dysplasia out of our dogs.

until they come up with a gentic test all we can do is show that the dogs we are breeding do not show any signs of a problem OFA or Pen hip are good only thing about OFA is it is more recognized and with AKC your peds will show what dogs have been done with a permant ID....Not a big fan either but it is a good thing to show we are ding what we can to promote a healthy breeding

So what can you tell us about the pedigree of these puppies and when do we get to see some pictures

The pedigrees don't have any big name field champs but I know somewhere far back on my male that there is a field champ somewehre. I have no idea of what the dog's name is and don't care too much. The mom and dad are excellent hunters and I would gladly go afield with any field champ dog to have a battle of wits!

I'm not a field trialer I'm a hunter, and hunter only! If my dogs hunt and we find birds and tey do their job well then I'm happy!

Who are you getting your pup from, somebody around here close or farther away?

We'd like to have you down to our place, we've been busy the past few weeks and have been loving it. Regardless of how busy we are we'll find a place for you, but to do that you will have to come down!

I am getting the pup from Maurice Lindley in South carolina. I know I wish I was busy hunting but not much time for that. but I definatley would like to come down. I would love to see those britts in action.
