what info. on collar id plate
what info. on collar id plate
I was wondering what information do you put on your dog's id plate/tag? I'm asking about the id plate that is riveted to the collar. Also do you use one collar for home and hunting or do you have two different ones.
I was looking at the gundogsupply and they have an article that even suggests using 2 id tags to contain all the information. Is this overkill?

Until I read the id tag article from the link above I never knew that you shouldn't put your dog's name on his tag.

A limit on the strap is nice, but the kill has nothing to do with tradition.

REWARD/NEEDS MEDS
Name
Cel phone
City, State
If dog is lost, do not give any info over the phone as to which med, dog's call name or amount of reward. Just arrange to meet the caller in a public place, like a mall parking lot. Bring a tape recorder or a video camera with you and have it turned on and recording without the other person knowing.
If the person shows up without the dog and demands the reward...call the police because that is extorsion and very probably grand theft.

Re: what info. on collar id plate
I dont know if anyone is still looking at this thread or not but if so, I would like to recommend a product its a stainless ID tag. They dont wear out like the brass rivet ones. And you can easily change them from collar to collar. Here is a link. http://www.boomerangtags.com/store/index.php?A=S&ID=22
Re: what info. on collar id plate
My problem with REWARD on the tag is that it could be possible that someone finds your dog and calls you and asks how much is the Reward. I have never put Reward on a tag. I only put my name, home phone.
If you think about it.... If you found a dog, and it had a name and phone numbr you would call it. If you wanted to keep the dog, you would and change the name... so who cares if the dogs name is on the tag. I understand the theory of NOT putting the dogs name on the tag and I never have but really what difference does it really make if someone really wanted to keep your dog they would.
90% of lost dogs today don't have a tag and you only hope they are chipped. Some aren't and some are. Yours should be and wear a tag for the chip company with ID # & phone number too.
Just my thoughts.

Re: what info. on collar id plate
I use the boomerang tags also, nice product. I have my dogs names on the tags, never thought about someone actually keeping them. Figured if they were found and called by name they would feel better. I do have both dogs micro chipped though.
