Quail calls can be used to locate coveys. They are not going to come flying to you like a duck, but if you're lucky, they will whistle back. I've never heard of anyone calling pheasants.

you might not get a whole covey come flying to you but a couple of times while me and my grandpa were out hunting when we didnt have dogs we would bust a covey and would watch where they went to then we would rest for a while by a tree and my grandpa would start whistling and after a while there would be a couple of the quail come walking to us.

I've had birds come walking into me before. I also use those total recall quail callers and they work like a champ, so yes you can call birds in with a call....but who cares about shooting birds, it's all about the dogs!!

They work great for locating quail here in NM, also work good for calling in coyotes.

I would guess it depends what you call them. Say something nice, maybe offer a cocktail and they'll probably return your call or at least leave a voicemail.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.
