My wife surprised me big time!!

Post by birddogger » Fri Nov 05, 2010 2:10 am

She asked me to go to Cabellas with her, because she wanted to look at the food saver products. No problem, I will go to Cabellas anytime. When we got there, she went straight to the mentioned items. She briefly looked at them and said she didn't realize they cost as much as they do and wanted to wait. She followed me around as I looked at several items, and then said "where are those things that tell you where your dog is"? I knew what she was talking about and told her there was no reason to look because they were too expensive. She insisted on seeing what it was, so we went to the electronics and I showed her the Garmin Astro DC40 and the price tag. That is when she told me that she didn't come to look at the food savers, but came to purchase the Garmin for me and had to have me there because she didn't even know what it was called and didn't want to get the wrong thing. I pointed out the price again and she told me to put it in the cart, it was my Christmas present. How could I argue? To say the least, I was shocked, surprised and elated. :D :D :D We have been married 43 years and she has never complained about my dogs or my hunting, but I sure didn't expect this.

I sure hope this thing is user friendly. I can't wait to play with it, and look forward to the peace of mind I think it will give me. At some point I will add another transmitter.

Congrats! You'll dig the Astro. Just sit down and go through the users guide...then do it again.

I say "atta girl" to the wife! There's nothing like the support of a good wife. My wife loves that I love Hunting. She and her family have that "Bunko Cult Thing" and I hunt and fish.. We're completely content.

My wife's been afield with my several times, but I can't ever get her talked in to taking a point and bangin a rooster. :? But she likes to go along (before we had the kid) and see the dogs work. She's taken nearly every every photo on our kennel site. I took her catfishing one time in the boat, she caught more fish than me... Hense I say I took her ONCE.

Sounds like you have a good one as well! I'm happy for you. Enjoy playin with your new toy!

I don't know if I would push it ha ha ha ha... I'm just trying to convince my wife that a GSP wont shed as bad as a lab... Once we get past that... I think I will be home free... From the looks of it, it'll only take me another 42 years and 8 months. I'll be sure to update the forum when that time comes!

A PP won't shed much at all! Give one of them a try!

Oh gosh, there is no comparison. I have a GSP and a Hound/Lab cross. The GSP has no undercoat and sheds minimally. The Lab/Hound cross however is the complete opposite. I could vacuum a dog's worth of hair off the floor many days. And it's hard to find a good shedding tool. I usually use horse shedding blades or rubber grooming mitts.

Have you tried the Furminator? Worked wonders on an Akita/GSD mix we had last summer who was blowing his coat. Got all the undercoat OUT. They are cheap on Ebay and really pricey at the pet stores.

No I have not tried it yet. I was afraid her coat was too short and that it worked better on GSD type coats. I will look on Ebay and see what I can find. Thanks!

Man that is too kool. The NEw man in my life has never been a big hunter, has hunted some, So it is funny when I tuning up the dogs for quail season, got the shot gun out cleaned it, its ready, Dog box in the back of the pick-up so I am ready, HE asked what about your work , I will hunt in between bus runs do it every year that way.

HE also told me all my animal heads ( Deer- b-sheep- oryx) had to go in the den or my office- his style is consersitive, so this should really be funny, Lady of the House Hunts Man of the house cook whats she hunts LOL.

Congratulations!! I I've got a feeling your just as good to her. From what I can tell, you have been so helpful to so many of us on this board, you deserve a surprise like that. You'll love it!..If she likes to hunt, if we have any quail this year, she might like to see how it works on Texas quail with my wife and me. I've got a feeling we are about the same age.

bossman, I appreciate your comments!! As far as hunting goes, she has never had any interest or desire to see what it is all about. She does enjoy fishing from time to time, but that is it when it comes to the great outdoors. She pretends to be interested in my stories though.
