Puppy hurt, please look
This is my 7 month old Setter pup. I'm not sure if she's hurt or if she's just hurting. I messed up and hunted her too far yesterday morning and now something isn't right. She gave up about 3 miles from the truck and just walked beside me back to the truck. She has just layed around since. I gave her half a can of soft food when we got back to the truck. She only ate half her food last night and this morning, I found her sleeping in the corner of the yard, outside, by herself. She walked about 15' and sat down. She wouldn't go to her kennel to eat, so I put the food down by her and she still wouldn't eat. Nothing looks swolen and she looked to walk ok yesterday and today, but something is definitely not right. Is this normal behavior for a pup that was worked too hard? How long should I give her to recover before taking to vet. I have a feeling that I just accidentely broke her down mentally and physically. It made me sick to my stomach to leave for work this morning and leave her in that yard, but I figured she would be more comfortable in her own environment than at my work, where she's never been.

If there are no signs of injury, she's probably just worn out. My guy's never eat till an hour or so after a hard run. They also mope around for a day or so. But if I go back out while they are tired, they are ready to go. She probably walked back with you becasue she found nothing (?) and doesn't unerstand why your out there.

Did you take her temperature? I make a habit of this. You never know.
IMO, I would be concerned she hurt her back somehow. Back Injuries have a funny way about not being obvious, looking like something else. Her hips could be sore as well. While a dog that age looks mature the internals are not yet up to snuff. Check her paws too. Last year mine came in the house with an odd limp. After a few hours of going Hmmmm, I found an acorn stuck between his pads.
My parents just got through an agonizing 4 weeks with one of their Cavaliers. 3 vets thought he had Syringomyelia, so they brought him up to a specialist and found out it was an inflamed disk in the neck/back area.
The dog acted just like yours.
I probably would bring her to see if the vet can pinpoint anything.

Good news, Daddy just went over and gave her some gatorade and she is drinking it and eating a little food. He said she is getting around a little better now as well. Sounds like I just over taxed her.
