My 4 month old puppy pics
These are updated pictures of my new pup. I got her at 10 weeks and 25lbs. She is now 4 months and 42lbs. I have been working with her every day I am taking her for her first exercise off of the trail this weekend. Basically exposing her to a few bird environments let her find some new smells and get used to the woods and other obstacles. I will be taking my shotgun but will only shoot if she smelled out the bird, Is this a good idea? Or should i just take her to these places and leave the shotgun at home?

Make sure she's sound conditioned before you start shooting over her too much. Don't want a gun shy dog. Thanks for the pictures, pretty girl.
Re: My 4 month old puppy pics
If you take any gun it should be a cap gun or a .22 I am no expert but from what I have read on here, the one thing you dont want is a gun shy dog. Every dog is different but I know that when it comes time for me to introduce noises to my pup I am going to be very careful...

Leave the shotgun at home.
Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig.

She has been broke of gunshyness. I never had an issue. She welcomes the sight of guns as well as the sound. I started that on like day 3 of having her with a 22, then 17, then 12 ga, then 12 ga mag, then she was around for the sighting in of deer rifles and never flinched. Now when i pull my gun out of the closet she jumps up and wants it. LOL. Should have stated that I just assumed.

You've been lucky. Next time, you should use a lower-risk gun introduction.

Yup, and there weren't any branches to smack her in the face at the same time the gun fired. I'm neurotic about gun intro. Had a gun sure dog go flaky at 1-1/2 years and it took a while to get him back. I send them out for a month so there are plenty of good flying birds in wide open spaces.Greg Jennings wrote:You've been lucky. Next time, you should use a lower-risk gun introduction.

just wondering what is lower risk than a 22 at 100 yards then slowly walking toward her? I didnt break her in 1 day.
Never thought of the cap gun however.
