Hunting Chaps Fraying

Post by Hookadooka BirdDogs » Sun Jan 09, 2011 6:46 pm

If you have hunting chaps or hunting pants that fray & tatter at the bottom from hunting grouse in the briers and thick stuff, an easy fix is to turn them up to the inside and use pop rivets to "Stitch" them. Much cheaper than new chaps.
Pointed birds: If it's flyin', it's dyin'.

In 1969, the only woodstock I saw was on my M-14.

Yep. Filson. I've seen stuff come into the factory that is more hole than chap ... one friend has worn out two pair. Filson folks said please send them in sooner next time so they could repair, but they still replaced both. "Might as well have the best."

What do they charge to repair them?

never would pay that much for them but my son got me a pair of their chaps for Christmas. I've already got a pair of Boyt's that I like cause they got the side zipper. (I think he knew that and plans to "borrow" the Filson's - ). We are going on a pheasant hunt next week so I'm sure "we'll" be trying them out.

You guys are most definitely NOT Grouse men. Filson chaps will last about 3 days in the real grouse woods. TIENANANS out of Texas seem to hold up the best.

Filson makes them with side zippers. I think they are about $110.

Are you sure this is spelled correctly? I tried to do a search for this but came up empty.

Must be all the brush and briars chickens hang out in!
Have had my chaps for about 8 years, still in pretty good shape, but when i was hunting with my brit, i normally had to slow down while walking, didnt take much abuse.

I always hunt in Carhart bibs with reinforced legs and have no trouble.

This company makes some nice stuff too. I have several pairs of pants that must be 5 or 6 years old. Tailored a bit better than Carhartts.

actually for rabbit hunting and such, I got a pair of Mule brand bibs. Go to www.mulehuntingclothes.com. (I believe that is their website - they are over in Mississippi somewehere and have chaps, pants, etc.). I've had a pair for about 5 years and they look brand new still. Wouldn't pass this on if I wasn't satisfied with them.
