Pregnacy Test

Post by Deacondawg » Sat Jan 15, 2011 1:08 pm

Is there such a thing as a pregnacy test for dogs, or a way to know if a breeding took before they actually start showing?

I'm sure there is but you will know in three to four weeks if you watch closely. I can wait that long rather than spend the money to find out sooner.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

Ultrasound. Dogs do not have the hormone fluctuations like humans do.

There is a hormone test but it can't be done until 30 days after conception. By then, you can palpate the little suckers...feel like walnuts and a week or tow later the bitch will show usually. Never thought it was worth the money.

x-rays at 42 days, blood test at around 21 days (longer you wait the more reliable), ultrasound before that.

Witness Relaxin Test. Can be used at I believe 28 days. I personally don't like to palpations, have been unreliable in my experience. The pregnanct test requires a blood draw and spin to get serum, after that it is almost like a human pregnancy test, 2 bars and they are pregnant.

My vet chareges $90 for the test. I have now bought the test and my vet is going to show me how to do the blood draw myself, as I am 50 ,miles away

My vet charged $60 for the relaxin test(28 days). He really likes that test, he said he it has been 100% so far. It was right with my female---not PG.

Dog Dr, you do a blood draw, overnight shipping and the cost of the lab to do the test for $28? Or do you do it in house? I bought the tests from Witness, and they cost $20 a piece which is the same that my Vet can get them for.
