Enough already!

Post by Onk » Thu Jan 20, 2011 6:49 pm

While I have enjoyed the training books, dvd's, mags, talks with sportshow trainers and the many endless nights researching on the pc I find it time to tell myself enough already! Its not like its your first dog, ok maybe my first pup, but not my first dog! The breeder has sent both pictures and video of the pups, also studied over and over by yours truely! I have bought the food, prepared its indoor kennel, got the collar with brass name tag, I even joined my local state Brittany club tonight......see what I mean, enough already! Its just time to not over think this whole deal and start realizing that this pup is just that a pup and there will be plenty of time for the bird training later!

GDF has got to have some of the smartest dog people on God's green earth! You just post a question and are given a wealth of free information! I am glad so many take the time to help me and those like me, while I have met none of you in person I still feel as if I know many of you. Thanks for your time and efforts and Robbie I loved the pup video!

Now that's funny!!! We do tend to get caught up in the dog thing don't we?
Relax, enjoy.... it's just a dog. It really isn't (or shouldn't be) as hard as we make it out to be.

I had to laugh at your topic title. I went to a Wild Game Dinner Wednesday evening and the guest speaker was Steve Chapman. I'm now reading his book The Good Husband's Guide to Balancing Hobbies and Marriage. Check it out at your local Library before it's too late!

You haven't even picked up your pup and your already thinking field trials. You my friend are done, fried, and headin for the big "D". Your obsession will begin as soon as your feet hit the ground at the trial. "Run Forest, Run". I started with 1 shorthair and was told to get another and I said "Why in the world would I want 2 coiled springs flying through my house?". 4 months later I had 2 coiled springs. 2 1/2 years later, I have many ribbons, 1 FC that is 4 points away from her AFC, and 1 that is 4 points away on both sides, 1 horse, and a litter on the ground that I will be keeping 2 more springs to fly around the inside of my house.

Thank God, we have 3 daughters in dance classes 6-7 days/wk to keep my wife busy. She loves dance as much as they do, the ultimate dance mom. I don't want them to leave the house or I might not get to train and compete as much as I do. I just might marry them off and beg them to come back and live with us. But I don't consider this obsessive.

Anyway Congrat's on your obsession. Again I repeat, "Run Forest, Run".

Wouldn't trade what I got for the world,

Bill

My wife says I have gone completely "To the dogs!"
I don't know what gave her that idea. However, She may be correct!

Seriously though, she takes care of the 3 bird dogs like they are her idea. :

I am on the trial grounds (Va Nstra) as we speak, wife's already gone  and the dog is standing rigid waiting for the 4th brace. I am gone already :D , so from the dark side, hop on in and enjoy the addiction, ya only go round once.

I think I was alot like you leading up to the arrival of my new pup. Information OVERLOAD. Within a few days I was pretty sure the breeder had made a mistake and instead of sending my sweet new puppy had in fact shipped satan in a puppy costume! Luckily it wasn't long until I had her convinced that everything on earth was NOT put here to be chewed on and the best place to got to the bathroom isn't always wherever you happen to be standing right then. It has been a very fun and educational journey since and I can't wait to hunt over her.
Good luck with your new pup. Let the fun begin.
