PUP CHEWING ON EARS?

Post by smokinsam » Mon Feb 28, 2011 5:30 pm

I have a 7 month old female pup that chews on the other dogs ears.
The other dogs seem to enjoy it.why?
The pup appears to be gentle and if the other dogs didn't like it or if it hurt,I would think they would let the pup know.
just strange to me i guess.

It is a normal canine social behavior. I have a four year old male that is the same way. Most of his victims seem to enjoy the activity.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

That is submissive behavior and if the other dogs don't mind sounds like normal pack behavior.

I wouldn't say it's submissive with my boy. More like apologetic. He will happily chew on the ears of a brother he has recently squabbled with or the uncle who has kicked his butt a few times. Right now he is obsessed with a female half his size and will creep up on her while she is napping so he can wash and chew her ears.

One of my girls also likes ears. I would not say chew but suckle. Just one of those things I guess.

I have seen dogs do this when one of them has had damage done to the ear and it is in the process of healing. Does the dog do it to every dog or just some dogs?

Right now, my ear washer, Wheeler, has one of Oakie's ears in his mouth, really working on it. Oakie is lying there, wagging his tail. He is invading Wheeler's space and Wheeler has thumped him a couple of time, ending with holding his nose down and chewing his ears. All I can say is dogs are weird.

I have noticed that dogs learn by watching. Have you been chewing anybody's ears recently?
