What's the best leash? Been looking at a mendota slip leash. Any opinions?

Man that question is like asking who is better looking a red head or a blond! I like a Jaeger lead myself.

I use 3/16" x 6' leather when I actually need a proper leash. I don't care for the British style slip chokes unless the dog is well trained because they offer no corrective pop. If I may be flanking a dog, then about 10' of softer type rope is good.

There are several I have used that are outstanding. Depends on what you need,
I have a 5 ft long, 3/4" plastic covered nylon lead that has an O ring in the loop end. Perfect for taking a dog to the field and then looping it over one shoulder, across the chest and clipping the bolt snap to the O ring to carry it with you. Ain't lost it yet. Dunk it in water and it is shiny clean.
An old 7 ft leather horse rein with a Walsall locking trigger snap is excellent if the dog might need a belly hitch.
I have a waxed cotton flat roping rein which I took apart, added a good bolt snap and locked it in place with a couple of Chicago screws. I love this lead because it will not slip in your hand under all but the most extreme conditions because of the wax, but if it does...it won't give you a rope burn. Also good for a belly hitch and you can let it drag because it lays flat and doesn't whip around.

Dogs Unlimited has some pretty sweet options. I have a duraflex lead with a loop to slide my finger through @ intersections or any other time I need to hold him close. I am curious about the mendota leads comments as my wife likes the colors they come in (don't bite the hand that allowed you to get a 2nd house dog).

This is what I use, they gave me one (I have a number of their products)
Made by Occidental, in the USA, of domestic materials, if you care about that.
Very nice, very versatile. I take my EP just about everywhere. Easy to shorten going into the store, and lengthen for the walk back to the truck.

My favorite is approximately 1 mile long, cordless and made by tritronics.

I'm going with the red head.
