Brittanies and a Setter, Training Day Photographs
Brittanies and a Setter, Training Day Photographs
Been a while since I posted some pictures of my setter and my parents brittanies. These are from this afternoon training on quail. Eagle and Phoenix are the two pups my parents kept back from the breeding of Hawkens and Falcon. The pups are 12 months old.
Eagle on point.
Phoenix on point.
Falcon and Hawkens on a divided find. Hawkens came from up wind while Falcon was downwind.
Tico, my setter, backing Falcon.

Close up of Tico's point. I love a dogs eyes when on point.

Thanks and good luck to you. That was the first time my setter's been trained on quail since early last fall. We've been running on wild birds exclusively so I figured I needed to see how well she did with a "dumb" bird. I admit I'm a little nervous about this weekend though. I have total confidence of my dog's ability in the woods on wild birds, but in the field with pen raised birds I do worry a little about her range and her sometimes lack in intensity hitting point. Once she's on point she'll stand all day, but every once in a while she likes to creep in too close before establishing point. To me it's obvious that she's more comfortable in the woods.

You will find that the course this weekend has a lot of wooded areas...like grouse hunting and a lot of areas to open up...a mixed bag. It will be unique. Kinda a cross between Augusta and 2C's in Peshtigo.
